Roanoke Rapids is Proposing to Build a Waste Transfer Plant in the City at Corner of Hinson Street and Branch Avenue.  This Action would Potentially Imperil the Environment and also Endanger the Health and Safety of Citizens.

Location near Public Works Buildings, Chockoyotte Creek, Wetlands, Flood Zone, Minority, and Low-Income populated communities. Plans call for a Large Open Building and Tons of Garbage/Trash from city and other areas to be dumped at facility and then moved to landfills.  

This type of facility has potential to produce the following Negative Impacts: Heavy Traffic, Loud Noise from Heavy Trucks and Plant Operation, Odor, Litter, Air/Water Pollution, Flies, Rodents, Roaches, Birds, etc. Reduced Property Values, Respitory Diseases, fires, Crimes, Additional Problems for People with Ashma, Lung, Cancer, Allergenic, and other Pre-Existing Health Conditions.
