I join with other residents of the town of Fairfield, CT, in professing my support for the ORIGINAL "Plan D" submitted to the Board of Selectmen (BOS) by the Fairfield Woods Middle School (FWMS) Building Committee.

I understand that the FWMS Building Committee voted 8 to 1 in favor of the ORIGINAL "Plan D". I understand that the BOS recommended to the Board of Finance (BOF) that the project move ahead however scaled down by $4.4M and to be funded & built in phases over several years.

I understand the ORIGINAL "Plan D" was designed to the Board of Education (BOE) specification to accommodate 840 students, 30% MORE STUDENTS, with increased classrooms and core facility space such as cafeteria, kitchen, nurses station, as well as auditorium, Physical Education and PT/OT additions.

This is a townwide middle school issue - not just a FWMS issue.  Both Tomlinson Middle School and Roger Ludlowe Middle School (RLMS) are currently overcrowded and cannot fit anymore students or do any more renovations.  An addition to FWMS would alleviate overcrowding at all middle schools in town.

It is unacceptable that there is an enormous disparity between the facilities at FWMS and the facilities at Tomlinson and RLMS and that students at FWMS experience overcrowding, insufficient cafeteria space, longer lunch lines, and crowded gym and library facilities.

I understand that the Tomlinson Middle School project cost the town $28MM for 35,000 square feet of "ground up" construction and a renovation of 160,000 existing square feet. The ORIGINAL "Plan D" will cost the town $24MM adding 45,000 square feet of "ground up" construction and renovating over 175,000 existing square feet. With this renovation project we are getting more for our money.

I, as one of the undersigned, wish to send a message to the BOF, as well as the BOS, the BOE, and the Representative Town Meeting (RTM), showing my support of the ORIGINAL "Plan D" and urging them to approve the ORIGINAL "Plan D".

Thank you.
