The entire thought process behind overspending and inappropriate spending needs to be addressed across the board including the teachers who require tissues by the box, paper towels, etc, and financial help from the rest of us not much better off for the "underprivileged" students.Flag

Name: Stephanie Keast on May 30, 2003State: SCCountry: USComments: I am a future teacher, and these budget cuts sadden me greatly. The only thing they do is take more opportunity away from our children. I would much rather the money from the lottery go toward the schools than my L.I.F.E. scholarship that I am receiving now. They need it more than me! Thank you and God Bless!Flag

What a lie it is to the voters who voted the lottery in specifically for more $$ for education. It's YOUR job to DO something about this.Flag

Name: Jim Hollingsworth on May 30, 2003State: SCCountry: USComments: It was so wrong to put in an "Education Lottery" without the plan for distribution being in place. As a parent of two York County students, I'm angry every time I drive past one of the signs for the "Education Lottery". Yea, right. What a joke. My children's quality of education is DECREASING since the lottery started. I don't care if I am in a "richer" county of the state - I pay taxes. I elect government officials. ALL children in SC deserve ENOUGH money per student to maintain a high quality education program. What a joke South Carolina continues to be to the rest of the country regarding education. Spanish teachers will be the first to be "cut" and our kids NEED Spanish to function in their generation. Ever notice how many Spanish speaking folks you see at the mall these days YOU need to get a plan in place NOW to distribute lottery money to the counties. It is the PROMISE that you inhereited from your predecessor. Now, SHOW US THE MONEY.Flag

Name: Thelma Luckie on May 30, 2003State: FLCountry: USComments: What a joke that SC has an "Education Lottery". My grandchildren attend schools in Fort Mill, SC. I am a retired teacher with 35 years experience. Come clean with WHERE all this lottery money is going! WHAT is it being spent on right now YOU owe the taxpayers of SC a full explanantion about this money. Do you plan a career in politics You better get busy and get something FIXED about SC's education system staying at the bottom of the pile.Flag

Name: Laurie Kruysman on Jun 1, 2003State: SCCountry: USComments: I know that recently, Fort Mill School have tried to raise the mil rate to increase money for the schools. It was turned down. We thought that we had sent our elected officals with the knowledge that this is what WE want. It did not happen. DO we not have the right to raise our own rates to help OUR school district. You have taken money from our district to spread across the state, this makes NO sense to me. I live in Fort Mill because of its schools. Right now I think my children would be better off in some little town that is barely on the map, that is receiving all the money. South Carolina has become a joke with its schools. When the lottery first came to be, we all heard that it will go for education. LATER, we found out that it would go for college educations. Again, helping those that can help themselves. LIfe Scholarships are nice, but my son will not be able to receive his, even though he qualifies, because he will be attending a school out of state, BECAUSE South Carolina does not offer his major, but he is going on a recipricAL Program. South Carolina says that they put "Children First", but from the parents view, I think you put children on the back burner.Flag
