This petition is in regards to the recent topic of "full day kindergarden" There is talk of removing it because of the cost. Or the option of charging parents $300 a month. I am a parent as well and as a middle class person I myself do not think this to be affordable. I am willing to pay a bit more for the school fee but that amount is too costly. Only the wealthy children will have the option of being educated. I once came across an article where a neurologist ( Pasko Rakic a university student form yale) stated that childrens brains can make far more synaptic connections then adults, as a child approaches puberty the connection slows. This basically means that from the ages of birth to six what and how you learn something affects how you learn for the rest of your life. If the windows of the mind close, is all hope lost for children whose parents did not have them introduced to learning at such a young age -at one lever no. Fortunately the brain retains the ability to learn throughout life. But on a deeper level the news is sobering, Children you had not had there nerocircuits stimulated at a young age will never be what they could have been. I myself have seen the benefits in my own child of what full day kindergarden has accomplished. Children need the reinforcement and repetitiveness to learn, especially those with learning disorders, I ask you to sign this because you understand that these children our, our future and what we teach them today affects us tomorrow. Kindergarden is the foundation of learning. Although learing begins much earlier then kindergarden it is very important for our children to have this time to learn things. The goverment needs to make this happen. They need tocut somewhere else or do something to stop this. I am sure if you ask a grade 1 teacher if in the past few years have they seen in approvement in the students going into grade 1 and i am sure they will say yes. Children are more ready and able to learn. I don't see it fair that we take away this wonderful oppurtunity for our kids. FULL DAY KINDERGARDEN IS IMPORTANT AND IT SHOULD BE FUNDED BY THE GOVERMENT.
