The funding for the fieldhouse finally passed today. It has been a long and draining road to get here but we actually won. I am going to take some time to recover before we move on to watching the construction phase closely.

Year-round training for all?
That's not so easy in Calgary when snow arrives in September and hangs around like an unwelcome guest until June. But there is a solution - a world-class multisport fieldhouse that will be unique in North American, and possibly the world.
Imagine it - a year-round facility that's community-accessible and competition-ready for sports like track and field, volleyball, soccer, rugby, basketball and a host of others; where everyone, from tiny mites to seniors and everyone in between, can train - whatever the weather.
Picture it - a 400m indoor track with a full-size turf infield (for soccer, football, rugby) and seven attached gymnasia (for court sports)
How can we get it? - by convincing politicians at all levels of government to come up with the funding to get this very much-needed facility built. Sign now to show them this is important to you. And urge your friends, families and teammates to do the same.

The emails to city council are piling up and mostly I am met with a heavy wall of silence. It is exhausting to keep pushing for a facility that Calgary clearly needs but I am not walking away from this yet.

Track is such a passion to mine but I need to train in the Oval and Jack Simpson which aren't the best for 6 months of the year. So many athletes get injured at the Jack Simpson and the Oval only has 2 lanes going fully around and since the material is good, it's always crowded! We need this
My kids are involved in track and field. Every year we drive to Edmonton for provincials because Calgary could never host such an event. The Indoor tracks at YYC are terrible and put our kids at risk of injury.
It is shameful that we're just now talking about this in Calgary. Our recreation and amateuur sports infrastructure is woefully underfunded. When places like St. Albert, Carleton Place, ON, and Grande Prairie have access to indoor turf, but athletes in one of Canada's wealthiest cities are left without.
There is a significant shortage of basketball/volleyball facilities in Calgary. We need to build something like the Saville Centre in Edmonton here in Calgary
Not only will this help all sports, but it will be a huge advancement for soccer who is confined to arena soccer every winter. The Regional Excellence progamme that leads to national soccer will not be certified without a facility like this.

This would be a great benefit to kids, both who want to run and from other sports who want to improve their fittness. Giving people, especially kids, a place to compete can motivante them to take up a sport that can last a lifetime.

As a competitive ball hockey player I can attest to how badly Calgary needs a facility like this! Tournaments are always held in Edmonton because they have facilities and we don't. How was is it that Edmonton not only has a better arena and concert venue than we do but better spring facilities too?
