Name: Jeanette Ferson on Mar 18, 2007Comments: I shop at ASDA every week and although a larger store may be handy I would not like to see local retailers suffer. Blyth have a larger ASDA which I do use now and again, keep Portland as a leisure ground not for shoppingFlag

Name: Simon M Foster on Mar 18, 2007Comments: Ashington does not need a Asda hypermarket! Have the fools at the council considered the traffic problems this venture would create It is bad enough at the moment and would increase ten fold if this went ahead. Maybe they are just thinking of the cash Ashington would fast become a one shop town - goodbye Station Road and it's traders! I hope the "elected" ones are reading the comments posted on this site!Flag

Name: Steve on Apr 22, 2007Comments: Well - at the sacrifice of buidling your total up to a whopping 28!!! A crappy little football ground to a better store which is creating a further 200 jobs for the young people of Ashington - - I think I would support the Asda venture. It is not an extra store - simply a larger store with more parking facilities. Which stores in the high street are threatened by this, that are not now... You people should think more about the options this is creating rather than keeping a bit of history, it is progress - get used to it...Another idea is re-open the mines!!! I like the slogan "FRESH (bread at ASDA"Flag

Name: Labour on May 3, 2007Comments: A cannibal was walking through the jungle and came upon a restaurant opened by a fellow cannibal. Feeling somewhat hungry, he sat down and looked over the menu... Broiled Missionary: $10.00 Fried Explorer: $15.00 Baked Politician: $100.00 The cannibal called the waiter over and asked, "Why such a price difference for the politician" The cook replied "Have you ever tried to clean one They're full of shit! Name: Anonymous on May 3, 2007Comments: "Wal-Mart (American Dominating Retailer) or commonly known in the UK ASDA, is apparently looking to purchase Portland Park" - - - I think you will find they have bought it - 12 months ago!! "FRESH feels that although tempting the sale would not lend itself well to the people of Wansbeck" - - - Your opinion I suppose - let the voters decide. "a larger store such as Wal-Mart would only have a direct threat to the existing high street" - - Wrong - Steve above said it - Progress "benefits the local town centre, bringing culture, investment and people to a once thriving market place." Like jobs etc, economy, and speaking of the market and football club, do they pay rent to ASDA for the land at the moment - I think not. "Wal-Mart have built similar stores elsewhere and the results are not good for local people or local businesses" Where "Sign the petition online now" OK - I haveFlag

Name: David Barron on May 30, 2007Comments: Its about time that people stand up for our local shops when you look at Gateshead for example was once a great shopping centre but with Newcastle and Metrocentre the shopping in gateshead is finished, and by letting a Big company taken over the portland park would lead to the end of the shops in Ashington, Newbiggin & Bedlington.Flag
