Comments: I believe that before the City of Pickering proceeds with any changes and improvements to our Waterfront, the Frenchman's Bay Harbour entrance and Frenchman's Bay area, they and namely our Mayor should be announcing and informing the residents of Pickering, so that they have the opportunity to add valued input. After all these changes will greatly affect mostly the residents that live in these immediate areas. Thank You - Sandra

Comments: Taxpayers money paying for private yacht clubs entrance to Frenchman's Bay is wrong. Pickering does not own the charter.to Frenchman's Bay. I or others was not told during the engineers E/A held at Frenchman's Bay yacht club that taxpayers would pay for the new entrance.

Comments: I believe that1000 feet of pier will affect the quality of the beach on the lake side of the spit despite computer projections used for the EA. The plan for the spit itself is well thought out but this pier seems all out of proportion when the numbers of boaters are compared to the number of beach users. Frenchmans Bay is at capacity now for boaters. Periodic dredging of the harbor entrance is a much less costly, both environmentally and fiscally especialy in this time of constraint. What is happening behind the scenes to bring about this disproportionate pier development?

Comments: This is the only beach in Durham which is open and tested safe for swimming all summer. I swim there from May to October. Building solid 1,000 foot piers, extending 300 ft beyond the harbour markers, and rising five ft above the water level, will definitely affect the water currents and could result in the water near shore becoming a stagnant cesspool of garbage and sludge. Just look at Oshawa: nice beach + massive pier = polluted and unswimmable (and the pier is much shorter than the one proposed for Pickering). Spending $9 million on a massive pier:senseless! Keeping our beach swimmable & natural: priceless!

Comments: I feel that the Harbour Entrance requires minimal upgrading without harming the environment. I feel also that the 9 million dollar figure is too extreme an amount and it only serves to the benefit boaters and the Yacht Clubs and not the general public and community.

Comments: I am also opposed to the new boat launch, storage area for surfers/kite boarders, and especially the addition of public washroom facilities. Please keep the entire area as natural as possible. While encouraging 'tourists' may benefit the yacht clubs financially, the more people that are attracted the more garbage that will be generated (with much of it left behind....take the mess the dragon boat races caused as an example). This is a beautiful area that I use many days a week YEAR ROUND to walk with my dogs and enjoy the natural state. (Yes I walk my dogs at the lake in the winter!) We do not need a permanent structure built on this side of the channel for the canoe club/boat launch. If there are concerns about over-sized boats being launched at the sand launch, then instead of erecting a new boat launch how about passing a bylaw restricting the size of boats that can be launched there. Post signs once the bylaw is passed, the enforce it! The addition of kite boarding at this location has already made walking on the beach on the windy days that attract this activity dangerous because of the wires strewn along the beach. Instead of creating ways to attract more people to this beautiful and fragile area, the city should be doing everything it can to protect it's natural beauty and by discouraging people from flocking to the beach, bringing with them their picnic lunches (from which they leave their garbage behind) and their large vehicles that they park anywhere they please. We moved into this area 9 years ago, largely due to the proximity to the lake and the fact that it is not commercialized. It is so rare to find an area on the waterfront where we can walk and play without cyclists and rollerbladers speeding by, without shops and food carts and the proliferation of seagulls that go with that, without the blaring music from the vehicles of picnickers, etc....... This area must be preserved in a natural state to protect the beach, the water, the wooded area and grasslands, the wetlands, and all of gods creatures that reside within.

Comments: I disagree with these proposals: 1) 2 new parking shoulders to be created for all the extra traffic, but will destroy precious lands. 2) $9 million dollars for the pier alone ??!! This government money could be used for something more necessary. Also, now the yacht club pays to dredge the channel, but after these two huge 1000’ concrete structures are built, the responsibility shifts to the city taxpayers. 3) Area will no longer be clean and safe for swimming, pier will act as a catchbasin for pollution. 4) Tourism is already set up on the Liverpool side, please do not destroy this small sensitive spit but leave it NATURAL.

Comments: We feel this plan is being bulldozed through without proper consultation of the people who live here. We are much against the "Toronto Beaching" of this beautiful natural beach

Comments: Stop the madness. This pier will prevent the natural flow and the natual beach that everyone enjoys will become a swamp. All the garbage will collect in this area of the bay. No way.

Comments: After reviewing the plan, I find it very concerning that something like this has been approved. I was lead to believe, that the West Shore area was to be left "Natural". What has been done so far is very peaceful and natural. This new plan seems like the first step in throwing out the "Natural" part of the area in the hopes of creating tourist revenue. I am not impressed.
