Whereas Congress has previously passed laws to give itself automatic pay raises, and whereas Congress is not doing its job of addressing significant economic issues by negotiating and compromising on the "fiscal cliff," I submit that Congress is not deserving of any raises this year and should itself include, by law, a freeze on any pay raises for a minimum of the next two years. Additionally, any budget cuts to social or military programs should include a cut on the Congressional budgets for transportation, office space, office supplies, and staff, including the Congressional gym, cafeteria, and hair salon. If the American taxpayers are expected to pull their belts even tighter, Congress should be the first in line to accept their own budget cuts.
