Name: Ronda Breier on Jun 3, 2010Comments: Reason must prevail on this issue. Weston went through an intense experience with the police, and in handcuffs for hours, the night of the incident. That experience and the resulting legal matter is consequence enough. For Gunn administration to deny him graduation or "punish" him further is inexcusable and creepy. Gunn is a community, not a police state.Flag

Name: Daniel Foster on Jun 3, 2010Comments: As an ecclesiastical leader of Weston's local church, as well as an alumnus of Weston's intended college of choice, I strongly endorse Weston's character. Weston is indeed an extremely motivated and insightful young man, which has been clear to me as long as I have known him (5+ years). I recently spent some time with Weston giving him my perspective on my alma mater, and his ambition and drive were very apparent to me. It has become quite clear that there was no malintent involved in this recent incident, and I strongly urge the Gunn administration to exercise reasonableness and allow Weston to graduate and realize his bright future. Sincerely, Dan FosterFlag

Name: Varsha Lele on Jun 3, 2010Comments: I strongly implore the Gunn administration to be kind and reasonable and not derail this bright young persons life. My son knows Weston through the Gunn Robotics team and has a lot of good things to say about him. Weston deserves a second chance. He deserves to graduate form Gunn High school. I am hopeful that the Gunn admisnistration will do the right thing.Flag

Name: Matt Fairbanks on Jun 3, 2010Comments: Please let reason win out here. I once raced from our cabin (vacation) to a business flight and inadvertently left my firewood-cutting hatchet in my computer backpack. The hatchet raised some eyebrows with TSA, but I certainly wasn't dragged off in handcuffs, and I did make my flight. So while I'd love to have my grandfather's hatchet back, I was fine with having it confiscated since it was my unintentional mistake. And believe me, I've made many others that I won't try to ennumerate here. Weston is a credit to mankind. He has great things to accomplish in this world for the betterment of society. Let's be reasonable, look at intent, and let Weston get on with his bright future. It's the "right" thing to do in the civilization we seek to preserve.Flag

Name: Chris Keller on Jun 3, 2010Comments: Weston is a great kid. Do the right thing. He made a dumb mistake. The five day suspension is appropriate and enough. Please don't expel him. Allow him to graduate and put this mess behind him. If he is expelled, the only example being made will be of a school administration that doesn't know the definition of justice.Flag

Name: Sandeep Johri on Jun 3, 2010Comments: The petition captures represents the community's feeling very accurately. While PAUSD responded accurately in the circumstances, now that the facts are clear, the administration of PAUSD should be the biggest proponent of protecting the students' interests and should not require a petition from the community to be prodded into taking these actions. Name: Susan Voll on Jun 3, 2010Comments: It would be a shame to let one simple mistake ruin Weston's future. We all have children, they all make mistakes. It is clear there was no malicious intent involved here. The students understand the gravity of his actions. We don't need to sacrifice him as an example or warning.Flag

Name: Marina Buchman on Jun 3, 2010Comments: I know Weston as a GRT and water polo mom. The whole event sounds like a major misunderstanding. While I support the initial response of the Gunn administration. I believe it was completely appropriate. Once all the facts were established, things should be cleared up quickly and Weston allowed to graduate and attend college.Flag

Don't make Westin pay for an overexagerated response based on unclear information.Flag

Name: John Higham on Jun 3, 2010Comments: There have been enough shattered lives at Gunn this year. Withholding Weston’s diploma is synonymous with taking a kid with an otherwise bright future and pushing him in front of a (figurative) train. After reading the Free Weston Facebook page, it is clear that the student body understands the analogy I’m referring to. What Weston did was wrong, but there was an absence of malice. All the school assemblies and candlelight vigils of the year will mean little if the last thing the student body remembers is that the school year ended much like it started; with a life tragically ruined. Actions speak louder than words. End the school year with a triumph rather than a tragedy. Free Weston.Flag
