Name: Krishna Parat on Jun 3, 2010Comments: I strongly support this petition. I have two kids at Gunn and I am glad Gunn took appropriate emergency response. But I am apalled that even after understanding the real situation, the Gunn Administration has not sent out a mail explaining what the reality was and how it was all an over reaction. Once the truth of the situation was understood, the right thing to do would be to say "oops" and move on and remind all the kids to not do such things in future.Flag

Would we want such a severe punishment for such a thing for our own child? Please try to put yourself in Westons parents' shoes.Flag

Name: Carol Brouillet on Jun 3, 2010Comments: Please drop all the actions against Weston, they are unwarranted, unjust. If it weren't for the media hype, hysteria, that has sparked this insane surveillance of citizens, threatening all of our civil rights, this wouldn't even be an issue. Personally, I think we should dismantle Homeland Security and redirect the entire military budget, which is now the greatest threat to world peace and our nation's future.Flag

Name: Jeanie Tooker Stephens on Jun 3, 2010Comments: Gunn students have been through a lot these last few years and the school administration had been unswervingly supportive. Here is another opportunity to demonstrate a balanced, thoughtful approach that takes the whole student into account. Westin is clearly an excellent student and friend who made an error. We all make errors and we can use this as a "teachable moment" for our children. All the good we do (that Westin has done) should be counted in our (his) favor when judgment is passed. Forgiving our children is very powerful. Thanks you for considering our opinions as parents.Flag

Name: Uma & Raghu Seshadri on Jun 3, 2010Comments: We are extremely upset at such poor judgement shown by the Palo Alto Police and the School Authorities. Punishments should be in line with the crime committed. It is the height of absurdity to take extreme measures for a kid who has shown, at worst, poor judgement. We firmly support Weston and are willing to do everything in our power to ensure that he graduates with the rest of his peers. Uma and Raghu SeshadriFlag

Name: Murray Smith on Jun 3, 2010Comments: Weston Healy is obviously a very bright, motivated, caring young man. We encourage the administration at Gunn to be wise and reasonable rather than unjustly draconian. We understand Weston has been suspended and may face expulsion. This event is the result of inattentiveness. It was not a prank or conscious rule breaking and was most certainly not a malicious threat to any person or property. We strongly urge the Gunn administration to exercise reasonableness, allow Weston to graduate, obtain his diploma from Gunn and move into his bright future. We believe Weston deserves this as he has worked diligently toward this goal throughout his life. To deny Weston of this opportunity is wrong.Flag

I suspport Weston graduating from Gunn and moving on with his life and a very bright future. This is no doubt a good lesson learned for everyone.Flag

I have interacted with these students and I can assure you they are nice, honest, bright young men and did not mean any harm. Having a son myself .. I can see how inattentive these students can get and mistake like this happen. I urge the Gunn administration to use their good judgement, listen to the Gunn community, and do not let this incident impact their future. Please let them get their diploma!Flag

With many students turning 18 before they are thru with their high school education, schools, communities & law enforcement should rethink & review policies & procedures before they ruin a life before it has even begun.Flag

Name: Aarti Johri on Jun 3, 2010Comments: Please, please do not destroy the life of an innocent child. On one hand we are spending hours discussing the mental health of our children ; on the other we are stubbornly following a fixed protocol with no allowances for human error, and are taking steps that could potentially hurt a young adult. Please let's be wise about this. The school and the police took appropriate steps at the time; please continue to do so.Flag

Name: Tabitha Hanson on Jun 3, 2010Comments: Our family knows Weston personally in our interactions with him at church. In fact, Weston would come and visit our family monthly to check in on us and deliver a spiritual message. We have all made judgement errors in our lives, especially at the age of 18, and we should show this wonderful young man the same benefit of the doubt and mercy that we would hope to receive in our errors. Weston has made so many great choices and prioritized his life in a manner that shows that he deserves the support and understanding of his community at this time.Flag
