WE WON!! MR THORSON IS OFFICIALLY COMING BACK TO MAYO HIGH AND HIS SUSPENSION HAS BEEN WIPED CLEAN!! THANK YOU TO EVERY SINGLE PERSON WHO HELPED US GET THIS HUGE VICTORY FOR OUR TEACHER!!
So
the story behind this is that one of the most loved teachers at Mayo
Senior High School has been suspended by Human Resources for swearing in
class. Apparently he gave a girl an extension on a speech and when her
time was up she still wasn't ready. He asked a few more people, and
they weren't ready either. He then responded to this by saying "This is
f***ing ridiculous." Mr. Jon Thorson is now on suspension by human
resources for this language. Mayo High School would like the support to
keep Jon Thorson at Mayo and have his punishment be lifted.
while I do not think that cursing in the classroom is generally acceptable, this man has not aimed his comments at anyone directly. AND he has made speech fun for the students - what a challenge!

I think it is sad that just last year a paraprofessional can phyiscally abuse an autistic child and gets a different position working in the school district. But, a teacher who is obviously well liked slips and says a word that is heard everyday and gets suspended. I think Rochester Public Schools need to figure out their priorites!

One comment should not get you suspended. It would be one thing to swear often, but he was clearly frustrated with his students because they were not doing their job! Are the students being punished for not doing what was asked of them? I am a teacher and I feel his frustration.

As a parent of 3 children at Mayo HS, there is no other teacher I would love to have my children attend class with. He has been a tremendous, kind, caring teacher for my 3. Sending my support for Jon.

I had Mr Thorson for 9th grade speech. I attribute my great public speaking and interviewing skills to Mr. Thorson. I believe the school board must realize that they have made a mistake with the severity of their punishment and rehire the much loved Mr. Thorson.
