51 Nigel BarnesI bought my Gwiz in January as an alternative to the tube and my scooter which had left me in hospital .It has changed my life for the better and also enables me to drive home a colleague who was involved in the 7/7 Kings Cross attacks and who now finds the tube traumatic. If the free parking is revoked I would have to question both The Mayor's and the Government/s stance on a ''Greener' London and World. Even at the weekend my family and I use our petrol car less and less which obviously has a positive effect on the enviroment .I strongly feel that all London boroughs should be embracing electric vehicles and encouraging more people with a free parking incentive. The electric car incentive of free parking MUST stay !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

61 petra strakovaI strongly disagree on charges for parking for EV. I am cycling on a daily basis to work and the polution is terrible. I have intention to buy an EV for various reasons.

68 Andy HillThe stated reason that The City of London gave for removing the parking incentives for electric cars was their worry that it will encourage people off public transport and increase congestion. This is completely unfounded and, from my research, inaccurate. London has a limited capacity to get people in and out of the capital. For drivers there is also the limited capacity for parking. This capactity includes driving to and from the capital as well as public transport. The laws of supply and demand (and competiton) will determine what people choose to do. If more people drive to work, this leaves capaciity on the trains and buses and vice versa. The laws of physicas prove that the only way to get the same number of people in and out of London with minimum congestion is to encourage the use of small cars (electric or petrol) as these deliver "more people per mile" than larger cars. The City of London should have policies that reduce congestion and then allow the laws of supply and demand (and competition) to determine whether or not people take a car or use public transport. To do otherwise demonstrates that the motivation for the change in policy is simply the revenues enjoyed from parking charges and not the reduction of congestion or CO2 emissions demanded by The City of London's customers . If The City of London allow the laws of supply and demand to prevail and the laws of physicas to reduce congesion, they will re-introduce free parking to small cars (GWIZ / Smart). If they also wish to reduce CO2 emissions then this should be limited to small electric cars like the GWIZ.

79 AnonymousElectric vehicles are the future to the converging problems of peak oil and environmental degradation.
80 Christopher SauvarinI believe ultimately, electric vehicles are the only powered transport that should be allowed in cities like London. Of course I am in favour of human powered vehicles like bicycles. The great advantage of electric vehicles over infernal combustion engine or (ICE) powered vehicles is that they use virtually no energy while stationary, whereas ICE vehicles (at least non-hybrid types) wastefully continue to pump out fumes while stuck in traffic. When was the last time you noticed anyone turn off their engine in a traffic queue or at the lights? Personally, if I were Mayor, I'd require every ICE vehicle turn off the engine if stationary for more than one minute. Something like what they have done for some time in Switzerland and enforceable by fines could be done by camera! We need more public transport, fewer ICE cars and more electric vehicles (EVs). We also need more cyclist friendly facilities! What about it Boris?

86 AnonymousIt is disappointing but not surprising that Boris Johnson has not matched his supposed enthusiasm with electric cars with a real commitment to encourage their use. Typical Tory attitudes; tax cuts must come before anything else. Shame on you.
87 Michael BoxwellI conducted a survey around eighteen months ago on electric car users who were using their cars in London. Over 90% of owners had previously used another car to commute into London before purchasing an electric car. Based on this research, I believe that the City of London's suposition that most electric car owners previously used public transport is wrong: there appears to have been no research into this by the City of London before coming to this decision. I informed City of London of my research over a year ago, but other than an e-mail acknowledgement at that time have not heard anything further from them. As City Of London have ignored this research, I believe they are not able to legitimately claim to have researched this properly. My findings have been published and are available for anyone to look at.
88 Sanjeev KaushikIt would really be nice and prudent to reverse the decision in favour of EVs. Such things will go a long way in saving our Earth.

90 Jordan GrossThe City of London cites that people are switching from public transport to electric cars - this is simply not true. People are generally switching from driving their petrol/diesel cars (that they used to drive into the City) to Electric cars as a complete substitute. If the City of London wish to go completely against the rest of London's feelings on this subject, they should at least undertake a proper public consultation.

94 Howard LeeThe rationale for reversing policy by the City of London Corporation is completely spurious. I acquired a G-Wiz because my public transport journey into the City was both poor in terms of service, and in the summer of 2006 a seriously unpleasant experience day-in, day-out. And, by adopting a green method of personal transport, doing a little bit to encourage a more environmentally appropriate approach to commuting. The incentives then on offer by the City Corporation were an added bonus. Their removal is a disincentive, the reasons for which are not at all justified and do not bear the slightest analytical scrutiny.
