Comments: There must be some middle ground here. The City of London is telling drivers of electric vehicles that what has to date been free, will go up to £2000 for 2009, £4000 for 2010 and even higher for subsequent years. Electric vehicles are less polluting than even their most ardent detractors suggest. In city driving, conventionally-powered vehicles struggle to stay within double the manufacturer's stated gCO2/100km. This is because the engines are mostly either idling or working well away from optimum efficiency. By moving from a very generous system of concessions to a very stingy one, the City of London will promote the purchase and use of vehicles that qualify for the congestion charge exemption but are more comfortable than electric vehicles. These vehicles contribute more to congestion and are far more polluting than electric vehicles. This should be avoided, and the structure adopted by the City of Westminster provides a good example of how this can be achieved.

Comments: We need to encorage electric vehicle use., especially for high occupancy vehicles. Electric cars still cost more on average than a new convential car, especially when you compare features. This incentive scheme helps take those conventional cars off the road.

Comments: Electric cars are not yet a mature technology and without a parking incentive from City of London, I will have to dispose of my electric car and drive a cheaper petrol-engine car into London instead.

Comments: Wjilst I understand that there should be some charge, the level proposed is extremely unfair. I also understand that currently a G-wiz takes up as much space in the car parks as a Bentley. Would it not be an idea to create specially designated spots where more G-Wiz vehicles could be accomodated more efficiently

Comments: This is too abrupt a change for the still developing EV market to accept. Policy changes like this need to be discussed and clear visability provided for the people affected.

Comments: There will be a minority of people who will take advantage of free parking and leave their 'big car' at home. How bad is that I don't know of anyone who has got off the tube and into a GWiz. If these people exist they can be counted in tens. How bad is that We need electric cars, we desperately need electric cars, we need electric cars so much I can't put it into words. We need Ford, Mercedes, BMW, Toyota, etc to make electric cars. THEY WON’T DO IT UNLESS THEY HAVE TO. If they see a few thousand Gwiz nipping around London they will get scared into doing it – DON’T YOU SEE THAT Have you seen the film ' who killed the electric car' Do you wish to be responsible for the sequel 'Who killed the electric car for good Get a grip, reverse your decision NOW!! We can change the world. Jerry Evans

Comments: London is now the world capital for Electric cars there are more electric cars in London than any other city. This is mostly due to the free parking. Please do not stop now we are on the brink of a revolution in electric cars and free parking is really needed as a incentive.

Comments: As David (one of the prior signatories on this petition) highlighted, London is leading the world with the number of electric cars on it's streets. If for nothing less than to promote London as a centre of innovation, I believe that we should keep the concessions in place to sustain the growth of electric vehicles whilst we develop the infrastructure in renewable energy from wind and wave power. For those interested in investing in another environmental transport innovation - the lightweight mechanical bicycle fuel cell (works on a similar principle to the rubber band aeroplane) - please see our web site at www.piefinance.com.

Comments: The number of electric cars in the Whites Row car park, which has three charging points, has never in the three years I have parked there, been in double figures. It is growing, but at a snail's pace. The arguments against free parking are ludicrous. From 2010 onwards, it will be cheaper for me to park a 4x4 in an NCP car park than drive my G-Wizz to work. I tried to be green.....
