Comment:: Dr. Dhafir is not only an innocent person, but a great human being, one who sacrificed himself for the others. His trial and conviction was a travesty of justice. The Bush Administration boast that the effort to ruin his life was a victory in the war on terrorism was and is a insult to us all. It is time for change -- and hope. Free Dr. Dhafir!

Comment:: Anyone who has taken the time to get to know Rafil by reading information on the website above or by communicating with Rafil by mail would be swayed by his humanity and generosity. He should be released immediately and honored as one of the few who saw the inherent evil of the sanctions on Iraq and had the courage to do all he could to ameliorate them.

Comment:: It is an outrage that this generous and compassionate man has suffered imprisonment for aiding his own people under a suffocating and shameful US forced embargo on Iraq. RELEASE DR. DHAFIR IMMEDIATELY, AND STOP THE CRUEL EMBARGO AGAINST IRAQ NOW. NO LONGER IN OUR NAME!

Comment:: These atrocities we commit are all too frequent. We certainly need to find a way to atone for the abominations we've committed. For example see 12/16 op ed in todays Albany Times Union by Maureen Dowd which again points out the way in which our country created the Taliban in Afghanistan to fight the Russians. nd now we have to pay the price!

Comment:: As a humanitarian and as a public health physician, I must affirm this petition. Dr. Dhafir's motivation was to provide aid for sick and dying Iraqi children. In addition, i believe the U.S. sanctions were wrong and only aided the dictator, while harming the Iraqi people.

Comment:: I am appalled by the failure of successive American administrations to live up to the founding precepts of their nation that have inspired people the world over for hundreds of years. The treatment Dr. Dhafir has experienced is simply cruel and unusual, or at least we would hope it unusual. Sadly, it seems America has lost both her soul and conscience. As a Canadian with American relatives, I can assure I will never support the United States as long as it refuses to see justice done to the good doctor, and others trapped in this unjust system that has gained ascendancy in the land once known for its love of liberty and truth.

Comment:: Dr. Dhafir is a victim of selective prosecution. Non-Muslims who were convicted of having actual business dealings in Iraq (as opposed to purely charitable dealings) were given far lighter sentences. Our country's moral standing has been tarnished by Dr. Dhafir's unjust incarceration, and sentencing him to time served at his upcoming resentencing would be the first step in correcting this injustice.
