Name: Tanya & Steve Griffin on Apr 5, 2007Comments: It doesn't seem to make sense to encourage the people of Scotland to live a more healthy lifestyle and then penalise them for doing so. Surely the council would better serve the public at large and the traders in beachside communities by highlighting the natural beauty etc and emphasising the free parking as it is at the present. Hey council! DON'T FORGET THE ELECTIONFlag

Name: Liz Thom on Apr 6, 2007Comments: As I live opposite Belhaven Bay, I would be interested to know if the Sward area will be subject to car parking fees. If it is, what protection would I have where I live not to be inundated with cars trying to avoid paying. My road, as are many in the Belhaven area, is already difficult to park in with residents and friends - let alone beach users trying to avoid payment. I wholeheartedly agree that the beaches should be free to access for everyone to enjoy.Flag

Name: Helen Shellabear on Apr 6, 2007Comments: I am disgusted and dismayed that the council should want to charge for car parking at the east lothian beaches. When one lives in the country a car is a neccesity that has to be budgeted for along with the council tax.Enjoying nature should not be part of this equation. As a regular walker there is no way I shall be able to afford a charge ofFlag

One of the main things we do together several times per week is walk our dogs along tyninghame beach. We will no longer be able to afford to do this if these charges are introduced.Flag

Name: NoraThomson on Apr 6, 2007Comments: I began a petition last year against the charges at Yellowcraig and obtained over 800 signatures this was handed to East Lothian Council where I was told of their future plans which was covered in the Courier. It is scandalous that the local council intend to implement these charges and I for one am more than happy to support your petition in any way I can. Mrs Nora Thomson.Flag

Name: Lorraine on Apr 6, 2007Comments: I use the beaches everyday to walk my dogs and live in East Lothian. I have walked and enjoyed the beaches in East Lothian from when i was a small child and my whole family for generations have been enjoying them. Charging for car park use will mean that i will not use the car parks and i will be doing all i can to spread the word to all the people i know in East Lothian about these charges. I signed a petition last year to stop the car park charges at Yellowcraigs. It is absolutely rediculous to charge for the car parks. The people in the East Lothian Council implementing these car park charges should be thorougly ashamed of themselves!!Flag

Name: Douglas Stocks on Apr 6, 2007Comments: They're wanting to charge what it costs to park in Edinburgh for two hours. If most people are like me who only spend couple of hours at them walking and enjying the scenery especialy in the winter. It should be free. What do we pay our taxes for so they can go on free holidays at our expence. They should remember that May the third is only a month away.Flag

Name: Emma Taylor on Apr 6, 2007Comments: I don't object to contributing to the maintainance of the beaches, but the car parking charges are pure extortion on the council's part. I was told by the council that they want to discourage people from driving to the beaches. Ok then, put on a frequent local bus service stopping at Drem and I'll happily use it.Flag

Name: Kathy Estibeiro on Apr 6, 2007Comments: Use of the beaches for health and recreation should not be controlled by possession of wealth. The council does not provide useful services at the sites so why should it be raking in money from visitors. I understand parking charges in places like Vogrie where constant improvement to facilities is visible and useful. The restrictions on the height limit that have been put in place at the East Lothian beaches have excluded our vehicle anyway (a Land Rover).Flag
