| 203 | Doreen | Lwanga | | UG | I like many Ugandans, and Africans on the continent and in the Diaspora long for that time when the African leaders will take responsibility for the acts of inhumanity inflicted on ourselves, our people and our lovely continent. When the African Union will cherish, nurture and treasure peace, stability and prosperity of Africa, when we will as African run our own affairs and invest in us and our land...We are tired of forced migration, forced displacement while the culprits enjoy lavish exile or comfort inside the country at the financial, emotional, social expense of ordinary Africans. So, that each one of us can live on our continent, in our countries and our beautiful homes without fear, spite or anguish but pride, joy and friendship. Yes. in the spirit of Obuntu. Please make us proud |
| 204 | Tim | Knight | | CA | Freedom of expression is the cornerstone of democracy |
| 205 | Sara | Cross | | | Media oppression is a violation of democracy. By speaking out freely the media can achieve much in the quest for a fair, progressive and decent society. Even in wealthy developed countries the voice of the media is a powerful balance that can curb excesses of government. It does not sek to be a replacement for the government - it seeks to ensure that government is accountable. Accountablity legitimises and strengthens government and democracy.
Please do not turn your backs on democracy. |

| 232 | Jones | Tumenta | | CM | i'm a student, trying to get an education. i have so much love for my heritage, and my african brothers and sisters. i just don't understand how they could get this brilliant and great idea of the african union on paper but not try to put in practice. trust me. by the time i grow up, i'd make that dream a reality. Thanks |

| 235 | Madi S. | Njie | | GM | On my capacity as Chairperson of the Network of Human Rights Journalists (NHRJ)- The Gambia, i wish to commit myself, and on behalf of my members join my Brothers and Sisters in the Media around Africa and beyond to work to ensure that Africaqn leaders gives due regard and urgent consideration to this petition without delay. In The Gambia, we still mourns for the death of prominent Journalist- the late Deyda Hydara: Co-publisher of the Point Newspaper who was shot death in December, 2004. No action has sofar been taken against the perpetrators. Mr. Chief Ebrima, a Senior Reporter with the pro-government Daily Observer Newspaper was picked up from his office by plain cloths personnel, believed to National Intelligence Officials (NIA) on july 7th, 2006. Since then his whereabouts has not been known. His family and members of the media has made tireless search from various security units of the country but to no avail. The Police and the NIAs has denied that Mr. Manneh is in their custody. However, recent reports indicates that Mr. Manneh was about two months ago spotted at the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital, The Gambia main health service provider situatedin the country's Capital City-Banjul.
dosens of Gambian Journalists are currently in exile in various parts of Africa, Europe and America.
Government has over the past years instituted legislations meant to silence the private media, making it extremely difficult for the sustainance of vibrant private press in country. Private owned Media houses has been clossed down without any justification
This is a serious concern to NHRJ and the Gambian media fraternity in general.
I recommend myself and the NHRJ- The Gambia as a party to this move and any further move geared to ensure free flow of information and vibrant press, and a world that is press friendly |

The settlers have left is saying, but the corrupt are still in place!
It is a disgrace in the eyes of the World that this dictatorship on the media afircains.
One knows the names, thanks to encyclopedias, their families will be cursed for decades!
Should be an idiot when they could live and die honest and yet immune to the misery! |
