The Telecommunications Act of 1996, turned over the public media, regulated by the FCC, and delivered it into the private hands of Rupert Murdoch. Ever since then, the "news" has become "info-tainment" and this country has been fed billions of hours of misleading information. This has got to stop. Help me petition the government to return the TV to a genuine news outlet and restrict the dissemination of false and misleading propaganda. I am proposing a complete ban on "info-tainment" under any other circumstances except a recognized comedy show such as Saturday Night Live. Anything that effects the people of this country with such a measureable impact should NEVER be allowed to be in private, corporate hands. There are certain things that we, as a country, must have in order to properly run this society. Certain factions knew this. This is why they bothered to involve themselves with the TV and "entertainment" at all. The TV media needs to be nationalized and belong to the people in perpetuity.
