I have known Sabu Quinones and his family since I was eight years old. I am not here to bring of the question of innocence all over again, for it has been too long since 1991 to bring back any claims. Although Mr. Sabu Quinones is a father, a brother, a son, a husband and most of all a friend to many, he has been unable to be an influence to any of his family or friends and community due to his incarceration. Unfortunately, the law decided the plight of this man in 1991 to be 20 years to life in prison. Twenty years ago on the word of a known drug dealer; who happened to have been on parole, claimed to have witnessed a horrible crime in which he identified Sabu Quinones. I cannot believe that our system has not only failed the family who lost their loved one to a horrible crime but also has failed Sabu, imprisoned on the word of drug dealer and not on evidence. I strongly believe in Sabu and know that he can be a successful person in his community. The senseless amount of time he spent incarcerated has made him not only a stronger man but also a much wiser person who will be a productive person in his community and family’s lives. As a friend and almost family member, I ask anyone and everyone that reads this please sign this petition. We as his family and friends pray the next parole hearing will allow him to come home. We are all willing and able to assist him in transitioning back into society, with financial assistance and help in seeking employment and housing. While incarcerated Sabu has become an active member in his religious views. He has also obtained trainings and certifications that will allow him to obtain employment in the field of construction. One of his main goals upon release is to become a public speaker, mainly to the youth and all who are willing to hear the importance of the values of family in order to help reform teenagers in not choosing a life of crime.
