Rachid Niny, a well-known independent journalist, chronicler and editor, has been in the custody of Moroccan authorities since Thursday, 28 April. They are accusing him of “offences against national and citizen’s security” Ironically, similar accusations are generally used by authorities against activists who denounce corruption of the government. Rachid Niny, through his best –selling daily Almassae, is known to be critical of the corruption of men in power around the king and the administration of justice. Via his arrest, the authorities hope to stop people’s demands for justice and democracy which have been shaking the kingdom of Morocco since February.
