Name: David Kenly on May 29, 2012Comments: Charging beach users INCLUDING TAXPAYERS the entry and parking fees of EIGHT DOLLARS ($8) simply shows the irresponsible management and budgeting decisions being currently implemented. Yes, we are in a financial bind, but YES, THERE ARE ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS. WE DO NOT NEED TO FINANCE the salaries of the growing cadre of law enforcement rangers when counties have their own sheriff departments. WE DO NOT NEED TO FINANCE the construction of elaborate boardwalks in coastal zones that are kept behind continually locked gates. WE DO NOT NEED TO FINANCE "improvements" when the list of backlogged repairs is aging to the point that rebuilding is our only option, and even then, when our cooperating associations often furnish far more labor than does DPR. And the list continues. Simply put, the issue is one of middle level management gone awry; the citizens who use our common legacy, our beaches, do not need to be penalized by arbitrary AND INFLATABLE use fees when they've already paid with labor and tax. The proposal to use "iron rangers", aka "iron maidens", is OUTRAGEOUS when considered in context of DPR management and public trust.Flag

Name: Darris B. Nelson on May 30, 2012Comments: Under The Coastal Act (passed in 1976) the legislature declared that one of its basic goals were to : "Assure orderly balanced utilization and conservation of coastal zone resources taking into account the social and economic needs of the people of the state." The state's plan to install 'iron rangers' at the Sonoma coast State beaches is out of integrity with the spirit of the stated goals. The fiscal impact to our coastal community is unknown. The environmental and safety impact can be devestating. People avoiding fees will park on our already narrow and dangerous Highway 1. Sonoma County residents and visitors want free access to our beaches.Flag

Additional paving, drainage, and ADA parking spaces with added maneuvering areas may be required. Alternative fund raising mechanisms and trip reduction could be evaluated in the report (i.e., passes, shuttles, FasTrak) before making a final decision.Flag
