Michael Taylor is presently in the federal prison facing a 40 yr sentence for a felony possession of a weapon. Michaels case went to court on the basis of 3 witnesses (relatives)even though 2 of the witness fled to avoid testifying against Michael one witness( who ironically was one of the shooters) remained and after being granted immunity,a shortened sentence for a previous offense and paid to testify was rehearsed and put on the stand, Through out the testimony the witness was caught in lie after lie and during the trial 4 jurors drifted off to sleep several times , Michael told his lawyer to tell the judge the jurors were asleep the lawyer discouraged him by saying that by telling the judge the jurors were sleeping,that would make the trial restart and that wouldn't be in his best interest. The lawyer was so sure that Michael would not be found guilty. The trial lasted one day and the verdict was given the next. A few months later the judge sentenced Michael to 40 yrs because he had past convictions, none of which were for weapons. This sentence is a modern day lynching and the prosecutor posted in the local paper that Michael was given this sentence as a deterrent for others in the city of Aurora. This sentence brings to mind the punishment given to run away slaves to "deter" others from doing the same. This is a violation of Michael's cival rights. He was not given a fair trial nor ample time was given to his lawyer to prepare for the case. We are trying to gather signatures to either have this case brought back into court or a total dismissal.We need your help. 40 years is a long time to spend in jail something you didn't do.
