This is the first generation that lets its kids drink (certainly unsupervised). They are too young for such freedom. Parents should practice parenting! We don't blame Chris McGee. He must constantly hyave seen drunken kids fooling around.Flag

Name: Dave Hall on Jan 10, 2013Comments: Who's the victim? Victims are hurt through no fault of their own. That clearly discounts Georgia whose own stupidity was the main factor. What is more, she was killed instantly and now feels no pain. Her 'friends' are probably 'hurting', but they took Georgia out from that party intending for her to be further poisoned with alcohol despite she obviously being incapable of reliably standing upright already. Not good friends. Her mother feels so aggrieved and apparently accepts no personal blame or responsibility. I'm surprised that with such a mother Georgia actually reached the age of 16. It's certainly not normal or acceptable for her daughter to be in that state. Quote:- "..she did no more than what many teenagers do..."; well perhaps they shouldn't! My children will certainly never be like that. She's the kind of parent who would blame the tree, lampost or pot-hole for killing their son when he's driving whilst drunk at 80 mph! The only victims are Chris, and his family, who was doing no more than his job. Irrespective of what the judge, or his employer, says he is not to blame, but Georgia's friends and mother certainly are. They must have been so relieved when the court ruled against Chris alone; and what of Chris's workmates who had the opportunity to stop Georgia going down to the platform? CCTV shows her falling over repeatedly even in the booking office! I note that Merseyrail's new recommendations due to this incident sound like very costly modifications which will inevitably raise fares still more, yet no new policy as to how to d/w drunks etc. There should be massive signs at all Merseyrail entrances warning that it's the public's own resposibility if they want to risk their own lives due to drink, drugs or stillettos, after all high heels and escalators are not sensible 'companions' even when sober! If I'd been on that train with it's 'party atmosphere' having to endure the incessant cackling and squealing of a bunch of attention-seeking obnoxious 'air-heads' fooling about, clambering on and off the train etc., I'd have been very annoyed at any guard who delayed the train, even for a second, just because one of them was leaning on it. What is more I would have been wishing every last one of them to 'drop dead', or at least I would have right up to when one of them actually did. At that point I would have been as shocked as everyone else, but no way would I have considered that it was the fault of anyone other than the idiot that killed themselves. No surprise that the judge got it wrong because they don't live in the real world. It's particularly disturbing that in the same week as this case a guy walked free from court despite stabbing a rival gang member to death. It's now trendy again to carry knives for 'self-defence', but who in their right mind would want to be a train guard after this? That judge had a perfect opportunity to highlight the real problems in this case, i.e. underage drinking, drugs and terrible parenting etc., but instead chose to put all the onus on one innocent man whose life is now in tatters due to a single split-second decision which in my mind was still the right one. If just one of those jurors thinks that Chris should spend one night in a cell they are very much mistaken. I certainly hope that they can't sleep at night and if they have any conscience whatsoever thay should join the fight to release Chris McGee NOW!Flag

On top of this, he then receives a 5 year sentence. I don't believe he had the intention. We are all capable of making mistakes at any given time.Flag

If he has really been deemed guilty of the death of this girl because of his negligence, I think community service would be a fit punishment and deterrent to others. Why be so cruel as to lock him away? Is it for his own safety?Flag
