Comments: how can you pin ALL that responsibility and blame on ONE person?? it's INSANE? you need to look at the bigger picture rather than using an innocent man just bbecause he was "there" and using him as a scapegoat??? Hang your heads in shame Merseyrail?

Comments: One railway worker, who seems to have made a terrible mistake, is being made to pay for a series of failings, cultural and institutional as well as personal. These include the people who sell alcohol and other drugs to people who are under-age as well as peer pressure and a culture of wild partying, as well as train-dispatch procedures. It is, however, too simplistic to say that Mr McGee has been "made a scapegoat for management failings", just as it is too simplistic to say that people who are in an unfit state because of intoxication should not be allowed on trains. In signing this petition, I want to say that we must not forget, or worse still dismiss, the feelings of Georgia Varley's family and friends. We should understand what is perhaps their need to feel that a prison sentence is some form of "justice" (though as a society we are too ready to send people to jail). It was not Georgia's fault that she died so tragically; she had only done what thousands of others do on a night out. But it was not solely the fault of Mr McGee either. And so it is to be hoped that this terrible case may be reviewed.

Comments: Gross miscarriage of justice! She was responsible for her own demise, as were her friends and mother! Not a train guard doing his job with silly, drunken teens on his train. What if he had attempted to remove them or prevent them from boarding and one of them stabbed him? Probably nothing! Typical of this society obsessed with blame though, a innocent man must now suffer. Shame on the judge and jury!
