Bethany OrEven small things - like getting double-sided printers and having discounts for people who bring their own cups and plates - at a place as big as CBC / Radio-Canada can have a huge impact!

Alec ForbesThere are long term economic benefits to be accrued through conservation that can significantly offset costs incurred in greening the organization. Please don't overlook this opportunity.
Jonathan RothmanSuggestions: -BYO coffee mugs ... but that's not all ... -BYO takeout food containers (Tupperware etc -- just wash it out daily -- bring multiple containers (ideally collapsible together to lighten load in your bag etc) for diff kinds of food -- e.g. muffin/brek. sandwich in morning, hot meal for lunch) >> Discounts for all containers/mugs would be great - ban styrofoam where possible at (eg Ooh La La in Toronto Broadcast Centre) in favour of biodegradable takeout containers - Same deal with catering options -- ask food providers if they offer biodegradable cake-plates, disposable cutlery etc -- or buy reusables that can be washed - Don't waste water - TURN OFF LIGHTS -- this is a huge energy wasting trend at CBC, among other buildings -- there are jobs for which we need energy, but leaving lights on in empty rooms(offices/edit suites/boardrooms etc.) is just plain irresponsible ... not to mention costly. - Make it as easy as possible for staff to use recycling, compost facilities etc. - Encourage biking, carpooling and public transit (where applicable) with some kind of rewards system (Metropass/transit pass corp. discount anyone?); facilitate carpools via a CBC employee wiki or another initiative allowing employees who drive to work from the same area (of given city w. CBC production centre/bureau/regional ctr. etc) to carpool or at least communicate to arrange carpools where possible - work on greening the CBC vehicle fleet where possible - Make conscious choices about from whom CBC buys its products -- organic cotton Tshirts where possible etc. - Some kind of plan for carbon offsets for business travel, foreign assignments etc. - will send a note if I think of more!
Peter WallWhat a great idea! I'd like to be on the committee if this goes forward.

Wendy DuschenesOur small group in the Writing & Publishing Services of Corporate Communications, Ottawa, is working hard to reduce its paper consumption. Given that our work often requires several drafts, we question whether or not we need printed copies of the material; we print double-sided; and of course recycle all used material. Even small initiatives make a difference, and we expect to add others in the future.

Mike TuchschererThe Toronto Broadcast Centre has made significant progress recently in improving waste management / recycling. However, there is much room for improvement.
