We, the undersigned, believe the application of a weighted grading system at Souhegan High School would benefit the school community. As shown in their school websites, many other in New Hampshire use some form of weighted grades. These schools include Pinkerton High School, Nashua High Schools, Hollis/Brookline High School, Bedford High School, Bishop Guertin High School, and Manchester High School. Our proposal would allow students taking advanced placement courses to receive one more point on a four point GPA scale. For example, an 'A' in an AP class would equal five points while an 'A' for a standard difficulty course would equal four points. Souhegan High School does not currently and never has had a weighted grading system although the school offers 12 AP classes. The students successfully completing AP classes should be rewarded for their hard work with weighted grades.
