This is a Petition for the Los Angeles Unified School to reinstate Mrs. Susan Hynes as a Teacher. Mrs Hynes has been an invaluable asset to her students for fifteen years, teaching disabled students at San Fernando Mental Health Center, Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health. Many of the disabled students were studying and doing pretesting for their GED Certification. When without any notice learned that Mrs. Hynes will no longer be teaching and offering her support, guidance to improve their educational learning skills. Her students were devastated and discouraged by her leaving. Mrs. Hynes was also a role model, and encourager who often gave her students the desire to seek a higher education by enrolling in college. Her positive attitudes made her student's want to learn and to problem solve and gain confidence; because she believed in them. Having her teach allowed these disabled students to get services, make Doctor appointments, attend groups, counseling and an education all at the same center. Many of the students do not have a car to get around from an adult education center/school; to San Fernando Mental Health Center and finally home to study. She taught reading, writing, grammar, held weekly vocabulary tests, ESL English, Basic Math, Typing, Computer literacy, and resume writing. Disabled students are at different levels, some elementary school, junior high school or high school level, but never completed high school. If a disabled student needed individualized instruction she sat with that student and taught them. There is no way to sum up the tremendous education value she gives to our disabled students at San Fernando Mental Health Center.
