Big money is keeping what every other sport has - an unbiased playoff system.Flag

This is the only sport in the entire country, including Division 1-AA, Division 2 and Division 3 College Football, that does not have a playoff system. Do the powers that be understand how much more money they would make, the added attention that would be given to college football if there was a true champion that was decided on the football field instead of by some computers and a selected number of individuals. I have never heard of anything so preposterous in my life! Undoubtedly, this system will be looked back upon as one of the biggest screw ups in all of sports history due to a few old, rich geezers that don't want to let a true champion be crowned the way it should happen...on the playing field! THE BCS SUCKS!!Flag

Name: C RICE on Dec 2, 2007Comments: These young men play their hearts out only to find out that all their talent, accolades and achievements for the season do not stand on their own merit as it should. How they must feel to find out that their fate lies in the hands of voters who may have their own agendas. They sit by and hope with all they have that the BCS system they are forced to play in will not leave them stranded. What sense does it make to vote a team that is 11-1 ( Kansas) number five the week before the last games, only to have several teams pass them up that have 2 losses. If they would have had their only loss near the first of the season then they would be playing for the national title but because they had next to last week before of the BCS decision, they can't go. What sense does that make Why should it matter if you have your only loss at the first of the year or the last. They were bumped down to number 8. Georgia was number 4 bumped to number 5 and they handily beat a Kentucky team who beat LSU. How do you tell a Hawaii team that is 12-0 that they have no shot at contending for a national title especially when they have a legitimate Heisman candidate on their team. They have no faith in you now. You guys vote on WHO YOU THINK deserves a shot. (WHO YOU THINK deserves a shot) You should not do this kind of thing to young men who play the game because they love the game and for no other reason. They don't get paid to play this game. Sounds like some of the American Idol or Dancing with the Stars voting BS were popularity contests win out over who is really the best at what they do. How do you think Kansas and Georgia players feel about your system right now You are not cedible. The coaches don't even understand this system that they are forced to operate in. The truth is that if you rely on a voting system and not the actual playing of the game to decide who gets to play for a national championship, no matter what you say, you will never know who actually was the best team. If the actual best teams are not included, then it is only a matter of time until everyone loses faith and your system is scrubbed. YOUR credibility is not an issue, IT'S THE ISSUE!. I hope this whole system tanks soon. It's the easy way out. If you can't figure out how to make a playoff system work, then you will just vote the teams in. What a joke you are.Flag

Arizona State and Missouri should be in, Kansas and Illinoise should be out Period. Lets be real a 32 team playoff will never happen.. I'd be happy to see a 8 team playoff. Long as the 8 teams are the number 1-8 teams, none of that #13 (Illinoise) getting in...Flag

Name: Charles Freeman on Dec 3, 2007Comments: Too many times have we seen weak scheduled teams heading to the "big bowls". These men play their hearts out all season to be the best, but in the end we are always left wondering who the best really are. Take the SEC this year for example almost every team was ranked at one time or another but they had to play each other therefore never gaining any ground in the current system. Who did Ohio State really play... USC who did they really play... Hawaii... so on and so forth. We all know it's about the money but what about these young men who play their hearts out every saturday. Is it fair to them to be rejected from the national title because they should have lost earlier in the year than later or their team won't draw as much money as the other team. I think we would all enjoy watching the best of the best go at it instead of "we think these guys are good" games. Who wouldn't want to watch great teams make their way to the championship by beating the best the country has to offer instead them campaining for the "big bowl" crap we are force fed now. By the way how did LSU skip past Georgia in the BCS. They didn't lose an extra game and Tennessee had a so..so season and LSU lost to unranked Arkansas. Just another example of why we need a playoff systen !! The only reason i can see that there shouldn't be a playoff season is because it would look like a regular saturday with all the SEC teams in the semifinals..... I know all those other conferences would get jealous and the BCS is the only way to make it fair.....GO VOLS !!!Flag

Every one else at the top of the rankings could be 9-3 or 8-4, and if Hawaii or Boise State were 12-0, they would still be left out of the national championship game. Let's move beyond greed of the old bowl system and adapt it to a fair playoff of 8, 16, or 32 teams, and put decisions about who is national championship on the field where it belongs.Flag

How can the NCAA, so utterly addicted to television income and fan dollars, treat the fans as if we are irrelevant. The BCS bowl system is an insult to fans and, ultimately, to the teams. In the name of higher education, can we please introduce some rationality into the system and have an old-fashioned playoff Eight teams Sixteen teams I don't care. Let's just do it honestly and do justice to the young men who play the sport. Right now the system is jerking them (and the fans) around.Flag

Name: Danny Jacks on Dec 8, 2007Comments: The time for college football "PR" departments to push the media outlets to back the home teams in their localities must come to an end. Watching teams lose games LATE in the season and drop 6 spots or more in the BCS standings, only to see them right back on top leapfrogging over other teams that are continuing to win their games also, is just plain WRONG! I keep hearing the argument against a playoff as being "not enough time". Well, how can you justify a team (Ohio State) playing in a national title game and it has been 51 days since they last played a football game Comments such as the one made by Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville when explaining why he voted LSU as his pic for number one in the final poll, are a perfect example of why this needs to be taken out of the hands of people with the "homer" mentality! The answer to this is pretty simple actually. Take the four top ranked teams (after ALL have played in confrence championship games) at the end of season. One site (such as Tempe) #1vs#4 and #2vs#3. The winners of each game play for the title the following weekend. Some will argue that it should include eight teams etc. That is not necessary. If a team has not done a good enough job to make it to at least one of the top four spots in the polls, it's hard to argue a claim to being the top team in the nation. The problem has been, out of the top four teams in ranking at the end, there is usually a legitimate agrument for one of the 3rd or 4th ranked teams to be in the title game. There has been a pattern that seems to always favor the teams from the areas with the biggest media outlets. There are teams that year in and year out, it does not matter if they actually have a team that is of national champion stature. All they have to do is just be CLOSE to being good enough and WOOSH!, they shoot straight to the top of the rankings. I for one will not be watching the title game this year. NCAA Football to me has always been a source of great sports entertainment. The old "go team", "win it for the school", "for state pride" etc. It is fast loosing all of that appeal to me. Now it's all about generating revenue, which team will TRAVEL more fans to "our" bowl Which teams will generate more viewership to sell more commercial time slots etc.Flag
