814 Stephen WeinbergAs an instructor in the economics department, I am endorsing the faculty's responsibility to value and respect each of our students. With respect to the legal charges brought against both members of the Duke student body and the Durham District Attorney, I assume a presumption of innocence until competent authorities deem otherwise. Serious charges deserve to be investigated with full respect to the rights of the accused, including the rights of the Duke students not to be pre-judged by the court of public opinion.

816 Don LilesThis is finally a breath of fresh air arising from the stench of Durham politics and the "Group of 88".
817 Joel S. RutledgeTrue justice is transparent; justice by Nifong is a fog.

820 AnonymousDr. Kenny Williams, I miss you. You would have been the only voice of reason from the humanities during this whole debacle. Instead, the folks in the hard sciences have to clean up the messes of their "peers" once again. Will Duke ever demand quality intellectual performance from their humanities faculty?
821 victor strandbergI am signing the Economics Faculty petition to affirm my belief that guilt for any offense (including some players' alleged use of the N-word) must be assigned to specific individuals after due process has found them guilty and not ascribed without evidence to a larger group. --Victor Strandberg, Department of English

840 Dr. Gary HullThe signers of the original advertisement sacrificed the rights and lives of innocent students to promote a vicious agenda. They should be denounced for this.

845 Joan H. ErwinI spent my entire legal career as a member of the criminal division of the NC Attorney General's Office. I personally feel betrayed by the seeming failure of the authorities in Durham to seek justice instead of a brutal solution to an accusation that had the potential to spawn racial unrest. That is not the NC Justice system of which I was a part, but it is now the system that the entire country thinks is in place throughout the state. I am proud of the way Duke Law School professors, especially James Coleman and Paul Haagan, have handled their tasks at Duke during the otherwise rather shabby way the Duke University administration reacted to this crisis. The law professors' willingness to look at the facts instead of blasting about about the culture of privilege, etc. showed minds far superior to the Group of 88 with their sophomoric and generally irresponsible statements implying guilt.
