I live in Palm Beach County and can not for the life of me understand why the Florida Marlins "must" build in or around Dade County only. The are the "Florida" Marlins" aren't they? Why can't they build in Broward or Palm Beach County? Last time I checked they were still located in "SOUTH" Florida!
The Marlins organization is always complaining that no one ever comes to games....well, I for one, think one of the reasons is the distance..and cost!
There are more fans in North Broward, Palm Beach, Martin and St Lucie counties than all of Dade County! Add the cost of gas to travel round trip to Miami, the fee for parking, Turnpike tolls, food, drinks, to their ticket prices and you might as well just sign over a week's paycheck to them! Then after paying for all of that, you might not even get to see a game if it rains! Yes, you will get a rain check...but only for the game...which means you will still have to buy more gas, pay turnpike tolls again, parking fees - again, and food/drinks! No wonder people don't go to the stadium.
I have communicated in the past with David Sampson, President of the Florida Marlins, via email, but he is so convinced that the people of Miami just need a new stadium and they will come to all games! Let's face it, the people in the Miami area who can afford to go to the games every night...don't care about baseball. The ones who do care, can't afford it every day. I once heard them use the excuse "very few Palm Beachers buy season tickets, Miami buys more". ....well duh, did you ever think it's because of the distance? It's just too far to travel every day from the "Northern" part of South Florida! Most of the "season ticket holders" only buy them to resell the individual games for a profit!
If the Florida Marlins were in Palm Beach County, it would be a "central" area for ALL of South Florida fans! If you build it here....the fans WILL come!
If you feel the same way as I do, and want the Florida Marlins and MLB to start looking for a place to build the new stadium, in places other than Miami Dade, please sign this petition and tell every Marlins fan you know about this petition so they can sign it also.
You don't have to live in Florida to sign this petition.
Maybe, just maybe we'll get a stadium built that ALL OF SOUTH FLORIDA can enjoy!
