Comments: The Academic Freedom provision has verifiably been linked to the Discovery Institute which is the foundation of the Intelligent Design movement. I.D. has already been ruled to be religion by Judge Jones.

Comments: Lets not shortchange our children by misrepresenting what science is all about. In addition to academic freedom (already contained in the standards) we also need to be concerned about academic integrity.

Comments: The standards contain a clearly written component that skillfully and appropriately adresses the concerns of the few who wish to modify them. This component is titled "Nature of Science" and can be found at the beginning of the 9-12 Bodies of Knowlege.

Comments: As a practicing scientist, I find the new science standards to be a great step in the right direction. The "academic freedom" provision does not promote either an academic position or freedom. It is an poor attempt to stifle the free scientific inquiry for the truth and has no place in a science classroom.

Comments: The new science standards were thoughtfully prepared by the framers and writers to give Florida students an opportunity to receive a world-class science education to prepare them to meet their responsibilities and dreams as scientifically literate citizens. Please support these standards for Florida's teachers and students.

Comments: Any "academic freedom" clause would nullify the intent of academic standards and belittle the massive amount of effort that when into constructing these science standards. As well, the image of the State of Florida would be nationally and internationally damaged by giving credence to any such efforts.
