| 1802 | Richard Williams | I believe in God but I also believe in evolution. I have nothing against creationism but I do believe it does not belong in science except to be mentioned as a belief that goes against Darwin's theories of evolution. Definitely creationism belongs in a theology class or social studies class. If a hypothesis/theory cannot be tested using the scientific method then it is not scientific but philosophical and based on belief. If we decide that what God does (directly) belongs in science and is observable, testable, repeatable, and controllable only find it is not then it would only harm Creationism as a theory. After all it is something that is supposed to be based on a leap of faith and should not be questioned. KEEP IT OUT OF SCIENCE! |
| 1803 | Perdita Ross | "The freethinking of one age is the common sense of the next." Keep Science alive in the Florida School curriculum. |
| 1804 | Denise Kay Kulhanek | Doctoral student in the Dept. of Geological Sciences at FSU (specialty - micropaleontology). |
| 1805 | Simon Nielsen | |
| 1806 | Carol Barbour | |
| 1807 | Paul Ruscher | As a Framer, I am supportive of our effort, of course. I also wish to strongly endorse the work of the Life Sciences group, in particular, their language for the strong teaching of evolution as a central tenet of biology. This is essential and ties-in to the other physical and earth/space benchmarks that we have developed. |

| 1812 | Anonymous | IT has long been PROVEN to my satisfaction that the SCIENCE OF EVOLUTION is the truth of mans presence here on this world. While I am sure that it is nice to feel that there is this big entity somewhere up in the sky or away from earth who sees and knows everything that is just whistling in the dark. I believe that every person should have the right to worship how he or she pleases as long as it does NOT infringe on the rights of others or the good of others. To attempt to prevent the teaching of a science or best scientific theory if you will concerning man kinds presence on this world is to inflict on the children of this state the same blinders worn by so many other lesser cultures who point up in the sky when an aircraft flies over and says "There goes our god flying across the sky!" Perhaps these fine people have forgotten that this is a PUBLIC school system rather than a religious system. Should these people feel so strongly that the teaching of evolution is incorrect I feel that they need to remove their children from PUBLIC schools and enroll them in the religious school of their choice. It seems to me that these people are attempting to inflict their narrow world view or religion on other peoples children, all for the good of those other children, I am sure. But that has always been the way that its been, if you do not worship the god I do then you MUST be a heathen and wrong. |

| 1814 | Dr. Anthony J. Arnold | As a 25 year veteran university professor of evolutionary paleontology, I urge our legislators to reject any attempt by the religious right to force the introduction of "Intelligent Design" theology into the science curriculum in our state. |
| 1815 | Norman N. Holland | I am an Eminent Scholar at the University of Florida, and I ask you to ignore this push from the religious right to confuse Florida's students about religion. This is bad for them, bad for our university, and bad for our state. |
| 1816 | Nissin Moussatche | |
| 1817 | Elaine Kaplan | Evolution is Science. Intelligent design is not. |

| 1820 | richard benton | do not abandon science and reason.our children will most assuredly pay dearly |
| 1821 | Lawrence L. LeClaire Jr. | Religion should be taught in some other class, not the SCIENCE CLASS! |
| 1822 | Richard Walker | Please adopt the Public School Science Education Standards for Florida. Don't embarrass our state and don't shortchange our students. |
| 1823 | Marilyn Walker | Please equip our students for the science of the 21st century. |
| 1824 | Kenneth Quinnell | |
| 1825 | Bridget McDonnell | |
| 1826 | Neil Lundberg | Students deserve to learn what we actually know. Why hide the truth from them - what are we afraid of? |
| 1827 | Lisa Milenkovic | As a science instructor and scientist, these standards are long overdue! |
| 1828 | Yang Wang | Science should be taught in school. Religion should not be taught in public schools. |
| 1829 | Richard Bence | All citizens of Florida, and the rest of the U.S. for that matter should be concerned about this dishonest, deceitful political effort to pervert and undermine good science education.
There is no scientific theory that is alternative to the modern theory of evolution. The theory of evolution is not about "creation" it is about the diversity of life that we see today and how it arose. Biology is fundamentally grounded in this theory and its successes in combating disease, improving agriculture, and in many other areas are myriad.
There is no scientific controversy over the modern theory of evolution except in the esoteric details, this is important, but not to high school and middle school students. What controversy there is becomes comprehensible at the graduate level and is addressed by advanced research.
The backers and instigators of the political movement of intelligent design and 'teach the controversy' have produced zero research, zero evidence, and consistently and systematically slander and libel hard working and dedicated individuals who have devoted their lives to benefitting humanity.
Florida citizens have to ask themselves, do I want my child to have the best possible education? Do I want my child to have opportunities for rich, fullfilling and constructive lifes? Would I be proud if my son or daughter discovered a cure for even one type of cancer? Would I be proud if my son or daughter discovered a way to make bacteria produce gasoline? Would I be proud if my son or daughter discovered a cure for Alzheimer's disease?
Or would I rather pollute and corrupt their education with lies and half truths and wishful thinking, deprive them of any chance of knowing more about reality than I do, and ultimately, corrupt their faith because I myself cannot believe their faith can stand to know the truth?
Does your child's future mean more or less to you than the self-serving agenda of a political movement that does not even have the honesty to state its aims?
Read the "wedge" document on wikipedia, and ask yourself, would "their theocracy" be the same as "my theocracy"?
These are the questions that should be asked, not hollow bullying arguments from ignorance about the most vital field of research in science, pertaining to the future of humanity, and all other life forms.
Think on it, your future too might depend upon it. |
| 1830 | Donald Evans | |
| 1831 | Emily Allen | |
| 1832 | Chad W. Hanson | Teach facts, not beliefs in science classes |
| 1833 | Julia Sander | I want my children to learn to think critically about all scientific theories and concepts. Picking apart evolution in favor of intelligent design isn't science! |
| 1834 | Alan Meerow | |
| 1835 | William Jacobs | |
| 1836 | Andrew Gordon | |
| 1837 | Jane Holland | |
| 1838 | Bev and Vicky Asbury | One of us is a retired University Chaplain and the other a retired medical technologist. We whole heartedly support rational scienctific starndards uninfluenced by religious belief and creeds. We accept evolution as a scientific hypothesis supportedby overwhelming and irrefutable evidence. |
| 1839 | Joe Mazzola | |
| 1840 | Patricia A. Shepard | I recently moved here from Colorado and I'm appalled that this is even an issue. "Creationism" is not science.
People need to be told the difference between the generic use of the word "theory" and the meaning of "scientific theory". Do not compromise on this issue. Religious jealot's should keep their religious beliefs to themselves at home, and stop trying to push their beliefs onto others. |
| 1841 | Nicholas Thornton | |
| 1842 | Michael J Healy | The public controversy drummed up by creationists has made it clear that greater attention to science education is badly needed in this country. The theory of evolution is supported by overwhelming evidence and is observable today. It is as central to biology as gravitation, Newton's laws of motion, relativity, electricity and magnetism, and thermodynamics are to physics and chemical bonding is to chemistry. |
| 1843 | Ana T. Torres, MEng | Parent, Engineer, Educator, and Concerned Citizen |
| 1844 | Robert Fisher | For the United States to remain competitive in the area of science, it is essential that all students in the State of Florida and throughout the United States be educated in all fundamental areas of science, including evolution. |
| 1845 | Joseph M. Demyon Jr. | |
| 1846 | Ray Bellamy, MD | Teach science in science class, religion in religion class or church. Evolution is firmly entrenched as a core concept in the life sciences and there is no evidence refuting it. |
| 1847 | john whitlock | |
| 1848 | Len Kates | |
| 1849 | Maxine Derkatch | We will be th elaughing stock of the world if we continue to allow religious extremists to interfere with secular education. |
| 1850 | Jeff Carlen | Intelligent Design has no basis in science and should not be taught in relation to science. It is, at best, a philosophical concept with religious implications and more appropriate for courses in those topics. |
