Kirsten FlamandKeep science free from influences that are NOT scientific!
Rob BrinkmanCreationism and Intelligent Design are not science they are religion. It is only appropriate for them to be taught in the context of courses on comparative religions. One sure way for a community to discourage high tech employers from locating jobs in the area is to teach psuedo science rather than the scientific method.
Jesse MastersonUndermining science education now can only hurt the children.
Jeremy MohnEvolutionary biology has been state of the art in science since the 1870s. Students who are not taught evolution will find themselves disadvantaged in the modern world.
AnonymousI cannot believe that people who do not understand science are trying to decide what kids should be taught about it.
scott camilScience should be taught in science classes and religious philosophy should be taught in religion or philosophy classes.

Ray Roberts“A small step for man; a giant leap backwards for Nassau County!” The Nassau County School Board has set another fine example of ignorance for our local students. I'm sure they utilized their deep scientific knowledge to consider their decision. The Nassau County School Board members must have also served on the Galileo* jury. * In the spring of 1633, Galileo Galilei, an Italian scientist, was delivered before the dreaded Roman Inquisition to be tried on charges of heresy. He was denounced, according to a formal statement, "for holding as true the false doctrine . . . that the sun is the center of the world, and immovable, and that the earth moves!" The statement went on to read that "the proposition that the sun is the center of the world and does not move from its place is absurd and... heretical, because it is expressly contrary to the Holy Scripture!" Galileo was found guilty and forced to renounce his views. Ill and broken in spirit, he was sentenced to a life of perpetual imprisonment and penance.

AnonymousPlease adopt the Science Standards as drafted. To do otherwise takes up back to a Galileo vs. the Pope situation with an earth centered solar system.
Robert Ing
Michael C. CosgrovePlease do not let the educational standards slide backwards to the time of the middle ages. We need our science education to be the very best if we want to retain the space business and the other cutting edge research of the future.
sally dickinsonIn teaching any subject at any grade level, it is important to begin with the accepted, currently known concepts. All the wishes of citizens who have neither studied science, visited museums, read widely, can change what current information tells us about how life changes over time. The evidence is everywhere - in our earth, in our bodies. Perhaps someday we will understand even more, based on a tried and true process of rigorous scientific evaluation, but for now, this is what we know and understand - and it is important to learn it - for ourselves, our families and our planet.

Karl D. Scheffer"They" are rapidly converting 'this' democracy into a Religious CONCENTRATION CAMP! At least VOTE MORE DEMOCRATS IN!

PHILIP J. SPEARMyths and personal beliefs may have a role in religion. Facts derived from centuries of careful observation and scientific study must be the basis for educatiion in our public schools
Bob HankinsonPlease vote to adopt the new standards. Not for me, but for our kids, whose future will depend on a solid education in science. Please don't turn our state into another Dover. That road has already been traveled, and we're all quite aware that it led only to a dead end. The time has come to move ahead together for the sake of all our children. They deserve no less.

Jon MooreAs a university professor, I wholeheartedly support the new science standards.
William Knox NorthAs a parent, I feel strongly that the State of Florida should adopt good science standards and improve the education of Florida. Biology is an essential science; evolution is vital to understanding Biology. Adopt the standards unchanged.
Graham Cushen CopelandThis is a chance for the state of Florida to get national attention for doing something positive. Let's not give the rest of the country another reason to look down on our state as a laughingstock.
Kathryn O. Dunn
Elise CassieAny notion or idea that is not based in the scientific method or process has no place in science education. I am outraged that a religious explanation could be part of my children's science education. Anything other than science belongs in a social studies class.
Suwanna Blakey
Deborah McEdwardWe need to be educating our children to be successful in the rapidly expanding global economy. If we teach anything less than current, accepted scientific standards we are doing them a grave injustice.
kim davidsonAs a physician who has dedicated my life to science and caring for others I believe it is essential to teach and understand evolutionary theory which is the basis of the biological sciences.
Glenn primack
Edward HennisCreation and Intelligent Design are religious concepts, which have no place in the science classroom.
Roxane BleiweisPlease uphold our scientic standards which include theories which are testable. The theory of Evolution is testable, Creationism is not. Roxane Bleiweis 4141 NW 37th Terr Gainesville Fl 32606
Maria OhrnIt is unacceptable to allow our teachers to be bullied into teaching unsubstantiated, non-scientific curriculum in science class. World religions really should be taught, perhaps in history class, but NOT in science class! Please uphold the highest standards possible in teaching our children. They deserve the best education we can provide, not a watered down pseudo-science.
Richard J. Lobinske
Meredith GarmonScience class is for science, not religion.
Cindy CapehartChildren are our future. We need to invest in them and their education. We need strong science programs so we have hope for the future.

Sherry BowenThis is an abosulute necessity in order to ensure a quality science education for our stdents!

Ken SalterI don't live in Florida, but I am concerned for all our young citizen's education. The nation needs excellent science and math education for our children to help us move forward in this century, instead of backwards.
ElisaPlease approve the Science Standards as written. I have three children in the St. Johns system. All three are very interested in science and two would like to pursue careers in the field. In order to be competitive and successful, they must have the best science education possible. This means that they should be taught pure science in the classroom. Please do not allow "alternate" unproven theories to be taught.
Philip J. Spear
Gustavo SeabraIt must be noted that this is not a battle of science vs religion. all we want is to make sure that any subject taught is *science* class is really based on sound science, and the best qualified people to decide what *is* science are the scientists themselves. The other so-called "theories" will only be fit to be taught in science classes after they have passed the scientific criteria. Until then, they can be taught at religion classes, but not science.
Jennifer GoinsHelp Florida stay in the educational race!
Ellen Hammond
Jennifer Van BergenThere is no reason that creationism cannot be taught as a belief system, but the challenge to evolution as a scientific doctrine is a challenge to scientific method and process and is turning back the clock.
