| 23 | Gary D.Ringer | As an engineer, I find it appalling that in the 21rst century, we are still even discussing this issue. Evolution is the only scientifically viable theory available. If any other hypothesis can be quantified, then by all means teach that to our future, but please no not equate the pursuit of knowledge through experimentation and thought with the intellectual dishonesty inherent in either Creationism, with its blind faith ignoring all that we have so painfully learned, or Intelligent Design, with it’s willing ignorance that equates our current lack of understanding with proof of some higher intelligence. Please allow the children of parents who actually believe this drivel to at least have the chance to learn the far more compelling tale of life’s adaptability and sheer determination that is obtained in the scientific study of the evolution of species. Perhaps then they too may have a chance to reach their full intellectual potential, rather than having the State reinforce a belief system that in the final analysis has no data to support it. And after all, isn't that the primary reason for the existence of our schools, to educate ALL of our children? |
