Name: Gudrun Wilhelmy on Mar 17, 2008Comments: In Germany the University of Potsdam has a very good arichive for jewish music, but now, there is no more money to take realy care of the great things you can find there. Even nobody to take care, that nothing disappears. It's our culture, a great part of it, that disappears, if we do not take care of it - worldwide. Save what we still have.Flag

Name: Dr. Aya Soika on Mar 17, 2008Comments: I heard with concern about the planned closure of the Feher Jewish Music Center, and especially the termination of the director's contract. Mr Shaked's work has been of greatest value to an international community of music lovers, and I would - to the benefit of the Museum and its international recognition not only but especially among musicologists - strongly recommend to do everything to save the future of the centre and to make every effort to keep its internationally acclaimed director, Mr. Shaked. We all have the highest respect for the work he has done and for the establishment of a unique institution. Dr. Aya Soika BerlinFlag

Name: Dr Bernhard Fulda on Mar 17, 2008Comments: The work of the Feher Jewish Music Center has no parallel anywhere else in the scholarly and cultural world. It would be a disaster to discontinue its efforts now. I would strongly urge the Management of Beth Hatefutsoth to reconsider this decision.Flag

Name: Dr. Jascha Nemtsov on Mar 17, 2008Comments: The University Potsdam, Germany was recently informed that the Feher Jewish Music Center is about to be closed according to a decision of the management of the Diaspora Museum. This news shocked us deeply. The Feher Center is worldwide one of the most renowned and prolific institutions in researching and publicizing of Jewish music. The School of Jewish Studies of the University Potsdam has been intensely cooperating with the Feher Center since 2002 on this field. The closing of the Feher Center would be devastating not only for the Israeli cultural landscape but also for the international scientific network. My colleagues from the School of Jewish Studies of the University Potsdam and I appeal to reconsider this decision and to guarantee the further work of the Feher Center as one of the internationally most valuable and most productive Jewish music institutions.Flag

Name: SARA MANASSEH on Mar 17, 2008Comments: The existence of the Feher Jewish Music Center and the outstanding achievements of its present Director, Yuval Shaked, cannot be allowed to cease. Beth Hatefutsoth would lose a crucial dimension of the services on offer to the public. Moreover, there is so much more important work to be done -- it would be a betrayal of the many Jewish traditions which still await documentation and recording if Yuval Shaked's position is terminated.Flag
