The sportsmen of this country will not sit idly by while a small (very small) vocal and well funded minority usurp our inalienable rights to hunt, fish and enjoy all the wonders our great country has to offer.Flag

Name: Robert Harbison on Feb 10, 2010State: FloridaComments: I am a Florida native recreational fisherman. "Fishing matters to me." Our heritage, our right to fish, has been taken away from us. Pew's puppet , NOAA, has succeeded in destroying our sport, our economy, our State. Even NOAA recognizes that the data being used was never intended for the purpose for which it is being used. Pew's own spokesperson admits that their recommendations are, "Based on politics, not science." MSA mandates, "Accurate data." We all know that our fisheries must be strictly regulated. However, we must demand that these regulations be based on current, accurate, scientific data; not politics, or big money. I, we, want our heritage back. After all, "Fishing Matters to Me!" BobFlag

I don't kill most of the sea life that I catch, and the commercial sextor kills almost everything that they catch. The goverment is turning the common fisherman into a poacher. POACHER, a name you put on us. This madness must stop NOW!!!Flag

What is the NMFS's rationalization for even more drastic reductions in recreational catches? Could it be the same science that led them to reduce the Commercial Red Grouper size limit to 18"?Flag

Name: Catherine Rodenburg on Feb 10, 2010State: flComments: My husband and I retired just months ago and bought a huge boat for what was always our dream, to fish. We spent our retirement money. Now we have a huge boat and no fishing. We can't even sell it due to closures, there is no market. The marinas restaurants, tackle and bait shops, motels and our friends who have charter businesses are selling out or hanging on by a thread. Florida is dying, we are losing fishing based tourism which here in our state is devasting. Unemployment is at 12%. Our property values are down 40%. Please help save Florida and our joy, FISHING!Flag

Name: Kristie Gilford on Feb 10, 2010State: FLComments: As a 6th generation Floridian, fishing is my hertiage. My family and I are avid fisherman be it hook and line or spearfishing. The flawed data and unsupstantiated research should not be used to close our healthy fisheries. In fact, the stocks are more plentiful than in the past. Fishing Matters to me so much that I am attending the Fishing Matters Rally in Washington DC on February 24, 2010.Flag

I ask that you look into the injustices being committed by the National Marine Fisheres and their Scientific and Statistical Committees. These so called officials must be held accountable to the measures mandated by Magnuson-Stevens.Flag

On Feb 24th, concerned citizens (commercial and recreational alike) will be in Washington DC to make our voices heard; in order to have the Magnuson Stevens Act revised. A revision would bring billions of dollars back into the economy. Where do you stand on this issue? As a Florida voter, I hope to see your support.Flag

So why are the commerical fisherman getting the largest share of the gulf grouper? They don't help the states in anyway to pay there bills yet they can fish all year and rape the fishery. If they take fish from me and allow fish traps this will be the biggest slap in the face we have ever had. I will watch who i vote forin the future.Flag

I also know, I am the only vessel at a location that has a number of ghost fishing people on it according to the Gulf Council. The data used for the determinations of our fish stock are very flawed, and the Gulf Council refuses to allow or consider any evidence contrary to their statements. The economic situation has left the fishing grounds on the Gulf of Mexico, void most of the time of any recreational fishing people.Flag
