We, the undersigned, oppose the the recent proposal of the construction of a parking lot in Huntington beach on the vacant lot at the corner of Atlanta and 1st Street.

We oppose using this lot for such purposes for the following reasons:

1. The lack of a true need that such a structure will benefit the city in terms of its supposed needs. That is, parking is only a significant issue on somewhere between 16 and 30 days annually. The lot will be near empty for 7-8 months of the year.

2. We are open to other suggestions for the utilization of this lot but we strongly encourage you to have the betterment of the community in mind. 

3. We propose that this is not the best or optimal use of the property with the nearby community in mind.

4. The property will encourage more after midnight  foot traffic with a negative effect on the neighborhood.

5. The police are altready shorthanded downtown and can not quickly respond to the problems that already exist there.

6. The lot is next to a  blind corner at 2nd and Orange.

7. What about a beautiful park with a Welcome to Downtown Huntington Beach sign as this southern entrance to Downtown is already an eyesore.

8. Some of us met with Luis Gomez to express our disapproval and clearly we were not heard!
