TO: Oklahoma Highway Patrol Chief Van M. Guillotte FROM: Theo Karantsalis, Librarian Date: Sunday, June 14, 2009 The Oklahoma Department of Public Safety released a dash cam video that shows Oklahoma Highway Patrolman Daniel Martin scuffling with EMT Maurice White on May 24. If you haven't seen the video, you can watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watchv=1fLO6f8M_gM Trooper Martin was speeding – with his sirens on -- but there was no emergency. He placed EMT White in a choke hold, threatened him with arrest, and put a patient who was being rushed to the hospital in danger. According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol's Web site, the OHP's mission is "working to provide a safe, secure environment for the public through courteous, quality and professional services." The mission says that the OHP is committed to the following core values: loyalty, honesty, respect, integrity, professionalism and self-discipline. Chief Guillotte, in your personal statement, you said that we should contact you if you can ever be of service. You can. Please fire Trooper Daniel Martin. Sincerely, Theo Karantsalis Miami, Fla. miami_librarian@yahoo.com Note: In the links section of this petition (on the right), you will find other related videos, documents and contact information.

This officer is a disgrace to the uniform, and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol is a Disgrace for continuing to employ and support this aggressive and abusive power mad individual.

They should also be held accountable for his actions as they are actively supporting him.

This man is should NOT be a peace officer/policeman/Highway Patrolman, etc. He should not be in Law Enforcement in any capacity! Interfering with ANY medical professional providing medical care for a patient should NOT be interfered with in any way. Even though a patient is not CURRENTLY "coding" it does not mean it could not happen in an instant. When a person has a acute or chronic medical condition it increases their chances of having complications. You need to instruct ALL Patrolmen that paramedics/EMTs providing care should not be hindered in any way, shape or form during their duty. This has happened to multiple paramedics/EMTs in multiple jurisdictions. The law enforcement communities need to respect them, because if they are ever in need of emergency care, these are the people who will be working to save their life, limbs or eyesight. I am glad disciplinary action was taken against Daniel Martin, but Highway Patrol personnel need to be educated to leave ALL paramedics/EMTs caring for patients alone. He could have followed the ambulance to the HOSPITAL before stopping or approaching the EMT/Paramedics. A complete apology should have been issued IMMEDIATELY, instead of excuses and such. This is why many are now claiming we live in a police state.
    Respectfully,
    Aaron K. Nesbitt
