We, the dedicated and loyal fans of Real Salt Lake, petition David W. Checketts, owner, Dean Howes, Chief Executive, Dan Checketts, President, and Steve Pastorino, General Manager to fire Head Coach John Ellinger.
While we acknowledge that building a winning team can take time, Real Salt Lake has set too many records for incompetence, including the longest single-season goalless streak in MLS history, an 18 game winless streak, and the inability to achieve even one road win to date. We believe that with the current talent pool Real Salt Lake should not consistently be the worst team in the league. With numerous off-season roster changes without any improvement in team performance it is now clear that the cause of the problem is Head Coach John Ellinger.
At this pivotal period in the development of Real Salt Lake, as the team seeks public support for the building of a stadium in the Salt Lake area, it is especially important that the administration of the team pay attention to the will of the fans. Without a solid fan base Real will not be able to make a case for public support of a soccer-specific stadium. There will always be a core of dedicated fans who individually or as members of one of the several supporters clubs will vocally support the team on match-day, however ignoring the consistently poor product Coach Ellinger delivers on the field is not a way to maintain a broad base of fan support. At this point who his replacement would be is less important than that he be replaced. Please fire John Ellinger. |
