Name: G Gascoigne on Aug 24, 2007Comments: NO CUTS! to our fire services. The people of Camborne need proper cover for when there is an emergency, to cut services will be totally unacceptable. We have highly trained firemen who do a great job when they are needed. Nobody knows when they are going to need their expertise, and to make cuts in the service is ridiculous. Cornwall has become a laughing stock in the media after the fiasco of Newquay, and I do not blame the firemen for it. So keep all the fire stations going and get back some dignity. Scrap the cuts! and invest more.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Aug 24, 2007Comments: More investment is needed, getting to the stations, risking their lives to do so, they need some sort of light to warn other drivers they are responding to an emergency for one. Come on CCC cut your allowances if necessary their lives are far more important.Flag

Name: James Willey on Aug 24, 2007Comments: Unfortunately it has taken such a tradegy like this to make people realise what the real operational firefighters having been warning for the past few years. The military senior officers, quite rightly stand to the Gov`t when they need things, when will the Senior Fire service Officers finally have the guts to stand up for the people they`re supposed to serve. How much would you pay for a life anyones ! ! !...fire crews would give everything including risking their own lives. Please listen to the operational crews . Unfortunately I`m retired know but I would trust them with mylife , take care.Flag

Name: Jason on Aug 25, 2007Comments: You need more firemen not less, a town of 20,000 winter time should have at least 4 fire houses staffed 24 hrs. The town should have as a min, 8 engines, 2 rescues, 2 tower laders, 1 hazmat, 1 batalion chief, and 2 medic units. All staffed 24hrs. Anything less is putting lifes at riskFlag

Name: Bruce Saunders on Aug 25, 2007Comments: The choice is "Do you want to have to wait up to 10 minutes, and in some cases longer, for a fire engine to leave the station when responding to your house on fire, or would you rather have that same fire engine leave the fire station within one minute of the call day or night Its not rocket science is it! Stop the cuts and stop playing with peoples lives!Flag

What would have happened if it was a hotel fire in St Ives Money must be available for maintenance for essential equipment.Flag

Name: Michael Mitcham on Aug 26, 2007Comments: The Fire Precautions Act has had a real impact in making Hotels ( and other places of work) Safe from Fire. The Councillors, urged on by business owners no doubt, in their wisdom thought this was too expensive. You watered it down & now you think Firefighters are also a luxury. Tell the families as I am sure there will be more of these fatal fires as owners carry out their own inspections.Flag
