| 2701 | Wali Hawes | This is an indignity. Enough hogwash about security and more about making Japan a truly open and international place equating the same status to foreigners that Japanese are accostumed to abroad. Otherwise boycott Japan! |

| 2706 | Theo Kapodistrias | The threat of terrorism in this nation from foreign hands is very low indeed. The lowest by far in any "developed" nation. Far more threating is terror from within. Recording fingerprints of foreigners, especially since it is relatively small number of mostly businessmen, is therefore a very xenophobic tactic at isolating Japan in the world which will only lead back to the pre-Matthew Perry days of the 19th century. Japan has thus far done a terrific job of maintaining and preserving a distinct non western culture which is at the same time thoroughly innovative and modern. That was cultural protectionism, this fingerprint recording is a step backward toward fear based isolation and global detachment that will only spawn more of the same attitudes in a vicious circle of foreign hostility. As a man who was planning to visit I am personally saddened that I will be treated as a criminal rather than as a guest in a foreign land, the way the US has done as well. The difference, the US is a state with many enemies, porous borders and an ideological target that however self inflicted has made the nation understandably paranoid. Japaan is composed of islands with few foreigners, few external threats and no ideological objections are harboured toward its culture and yet the government is still paranoid. It is illogical, dishonorable and completely unnecessary. |
| 2707 | Anonymous | Abolish it. I like many others have 2nd thoughts about visiting Japan. I have always had happy thoguhts of Japan and my travels there but this is a new message to me that I should perhaps travel elsewhere. In addition, just because other countries are doing it, doesn't mean it is right. Besides, the information gathered can still be faked and worked around as all precautions in the world. |

Korean - Japanese Nationals fought for years to eliminate this exact thing and now, like a bad rash -
" They're Back ! ".
Terrorism in Japan has historically been homegrown, e.g. The Red Army, The Sarin Attack. This will in no way make Japan " safer " and is an infringement on the human and legal rights of non - Japanese. As for refugee problems, I was not aware that Japan took in very many refugees - unless of course they are ethnic Japanese and wealthy. This program does not reflect well upon the Japanese government nor the Japanese people. Foreigners are not ipso facto criminals nor terrorists. |

| 2716 | Anonymous | If the Japanese want to use fingerprinting to catch criminals they should do everyone, not just foreigners- it is clearly racist. |

| 2727 | Shiho Kobayashi | This new rule is really shameful. Most of the Japanese public don't know this matter.
The Japanese Government is very arrogant. They have implemented this rule without our consent.
The Government should stop such a stupid rule. |
| 2728 | Sven Paulson | I have always loved Japan and their culture but this act of discrimination is outragues and I will not tolerant to be treated as some kind of criminal. Dear Primeminister, what would you think if you was in the same situation as I am? |

| 2730 | Anonymous | On my recent visit to Japan, I was fingerprinted, yet I watched as the local Japanese citizens walked on through without being finger printed. Why was that? Why is your country labelling foreigners as the problem. All indifiduals should be fingerprinted if you are going to have this policy. |

| 2733 | August Boehm | I am currently living in Japan. If my girlfriend and I go on holidays overseas and reenter, we get separated because of this. I can't imagine what it's like for mixed families.
Check your history - all recent terrorism in Japan has been committed by Japanese, no foreigners. |

| 2735 | Anonymous | It is a very racist issue. If the new decision on taking fingerprints... would be applied to any nationalities, including Japanese, the law would make sense, otherwise it is a real act of racism. |
| 2736 | Cormac Guerin | I went to Japan recently and had to have my finger prints taken, I feel like this has infringed on my rights. I was visiting my girlfriends family, so i felt like I had no choice but to accept. It's really not a good feeling knowing that you are stored on a computer, of course this information will be given to the USA and other countries. It's a shame to treat people like this. Sigh... |

| 2739 | anna | Im not totally against it. I just want a little consideration. For example those people who has a history of overstaying and used different name, but now married to a japanese national...HOW CAN THEY COME BACK HERE IN JAPAN? THEY ALREADY BUILT THEIR FAMILY HERE IN JAPAN...ALSO GOT KIDS. BUT BECAUSE OF THE NEW POLICY THEY CAN NO LONGER BE WITH THEIR FAMILIES...IT BRINGS DESTRUCTION TO A FAMILY...PLEASE TRY TO REVISE YOUR LAW...AND HAVE PITY>>>CAN U STOP TERRORISM WITHOUT DETERIORATING A HOME????? |

That recalls me of so many other countries.
I hoped Japan would evolve differently.
By the way, the last terrorist attack in Japan was it not related to Aum sect ? |

| 2749 | Alexander Cox | To be fair, all Japanese should be fingerprinted as well. They are just as likely to be terrorists as non-Japanese are. For ordinary long-term residents, fingerprinting is not only inconvenient, it is also insulting and shows complete disregard for the contribution that many long-term residents have made to this country. |
