Name: Marissa Phelan on Jan 28, 2010Comments: I think it's important for kids to learn about finances very early on. I wish that it was started as early as middle school, as that is when a child starts really grasping the concept of money. I support any and all financial classes at any level of schooling.Flag

Name: Alison R. Simonton on Jan 29, 2010Comments: I have 2 teenagers and, despite my best attempts, I don't think they are ready to make good financial decisions. I do ok but I still feel like there are things I don't know for myself, so there is no way I am in a good position to properly prepare my kids. Getting some sort of education in school (at all ages) would be a great asset to our society as a whole.Flag

Name: John Royce on Jan 29, 2010Comments: This is a petition that I have groused about for years, financial education in high school. This is at the core of all our problems. Few of us have had education where finances were concerned before it was too late and we were saddled with student loans and credit cards. Seems nearly criminal how this system propagates itself onto the next generation of students, with the mantra of the educational system being, "Go to school get a good education so that you can get a good job."Flag

Name: Anonymous on Feb 17, 2010Comments: We desperatly need financial education in Middle School; High School and definetly College. The sooner the better. If our leaders in Congress had learned financial management we would not be in the mess we are in now. And of course our Bankers should have been taught ethics!!!!Flag

Name: L on Feb 18, 2010Comments: There are many "life skills" that are not being taught in our schools. In the old days, parents had more time to actually raise their children and perhaps teach them such important lessons. Today, with parents working, our kids have no clue what money and saving is all about. All they do know is to ask Mom and Dad if they want something. I am all for your idea. .Flag

As a former single family builder, you get a first hand experience in the need for a education program to educate our youth on the value of money and how it works over time with interest.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Mar 2, 2010Comments: I am a retired Family and Consumer Science teacher, and I just want to state for the record, that we have always taught money management skills as a part of our curriculum. It is unfortunate that we were not able to teach ALL of the students before they graduated from high school; FACS courses are electives. I am definitely in favor of financial education in high school. My famous words to my students-"It's not how much money you have, it's what you do with the money you have."Flag
