The petition

We respectfully ask our City Council to CANCEL the American Water contract and build us a plant we can afford.

Our City has entered into an $82 million contract to privatize our wastewater treatment plant construction and 20 years of operations. Within a few years(2010) we will have sewer bills in excess of $100 per month. There are other systems that could be selected for a lot less cost and operating expense.

Other companies have stated that we could modify the existing plant within the time frame of our Time Schedule Order issued by the Regional Water Quality Control Board(RWQCB) and guarantee compliance just like American Water. These proposed treatments have been certified by California Department of Health Services for Title 22 reuse.

As a subsidiary of a multinational conglomerate, American Water HAS to make a large profit for their shareholders and we will be providing this profit for the next 20 years.

Tell the city where you stand on the $82 million sewer plant.:
  • We can’t afford this plant! Cancel the American Water contract and look at other viable options
  • Let’s build the best plant our money can buy. Let’s pay the most expensive operational and electrical costs of all technologies
