Name: Richard Day on Dec 5, 2004State: VACountry: USComments: Class of '77. "Hokie" has always been, Duuuh, HOKIE! Who the HELL started promoting this DUMB, DENIGRATING name anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our school couldn't get it's name straight until the 80's. VPI VPI&SU VT Virginia Tech Now, in 2004 it still hasn't straightened out it's mascot identity. Get it done!! There's no such thing as a cheerleader's "Hokie" costume, but there have been many variations on the "Fighting Gobbler" costume. Doesn't the mascot choice seem obvious Doesn't the probable confusion among those who don't know us occur to anyone I will always refer to our teams as "Fighting Gobblers". That might lead to the school being called "Turkey Tech", which is pretty cool and a lot better than "Hokie", and of course, "Wahoo U."! Tech can and should get rid of "Hokie"! For pete's sake, put "Home of the Fighting Gobblers" back on Lane Stadium! I'm imagining that some enterprising students (or alumni) might just take this issue into their own hands and put it there anyway!Flag

Since I now live on the left coast, I don't get to VT games very often (I was at the SF Nut Bowl in '02, however), but when I do get back to Lane Stadium, I would like to see "Home of the Fighting Gobblers" on it. Don't do it, Weaver!Flag
