Introduction about Kids Help Phone: Today, Kids Help Phone is Canada's only toll-free, 24-hour, bilingual and anonymous phone counselling, referral and information service for children and youth. Every day, professional counsellors provide immediate, caring help and hope to young people from urban and rural communities across the country. Kids Help Phone created the Student Ambassador Program in 1996 and since then have trained over 9,000 young people across Canada. The primary responsibilities of a Kids Help Phone Student Ambassador are to raise money and awareness for Kids Help Phone. With no government funding, Kids Help Phone holds many fundraisers and also receives support from sponsors including the Bank of Montreal, Nestle, Parmalat and Bell Canada. Who: My name is Sabrina Bruno and I have created this proposal to request permission to create a Kids Help Phone club at Father Bressani Catholic High School. I am currently a grade eleven student and a Kids Help Phone Student Ambassador. I do a lot of volunteer work with Kids Help Phone and know many of my fellow Student Ambassadors nation-wide who have created their own Kids Help Phone club in their high school. What: My goals for the proposed Kids Help Phone club are as follows: Organizing fundraisers for Kids Help Phone around the school/community Raising awareness amongst the student body via posters, presentations, announcements, etc. Help students at Father Bressani Catholic High School earn their charitable volunteer hours in order to complete their mandatory forty hours of community service for graduation Where: I would like to create this club at Father Bressani Catholic High School. I would need a meeting space (approximately once a week) as well as a teacher supervisor. I, along with the teacher supervisor, will recruit students who attend Father Bressani Catholic High School and together, all who are involved will be the back bone of the Kids Help Phone club at Father Bressani Catholic High School. When: I would like to organize meetings approximately once a week. These meetings will be held at Father Bressani Catholic High School. I am aiming for this club to run year-round. Why: Kids Help Phone helps many young people nation-wide. I feel that this service is an excellent resource for young people across the country to use. It is important that every young person in Canada knows about this service, which is why raising awareness is extremely important. Because Kids Help Phone does not receive any government funding, it is important that fundraisers are held in order to ensure the continuous running of the service.
