The Federal Minimum Wage has been a political football too long. It is time to ensure that the working poor of this country have the same chance for cost of living raises as their elected representatives in Washington. The proposal is simple: 1) Neither the members of the House of Representatives or the Senate, or the President or Vice President shall receive increases in their salaries unless the Federal Minimum Wage is increased by the same percentage as any proposed increase in those salaries. 2) If the members of the House of Representatives or the Senate, or the President or Vice President receive any cost-of-living adjustments in their salaries the Federal Minimum Wage will receive adjustments in equal proportion. 3) A law shall be enacted that requires these conditions be attached to any legislation that would increase the compensation provided to federal elected officials. This law would require a simple majority to enact. This law would require a super majority vote in both the House of Representatives and the Senate to repeal.
