Name: Luke T. Hyder on Jan 14, 2009Comments: I think it is premature and I look forward to understanding every option that Elmhurst parents can be afforded before such drastic measures are to take place. We moved to Portsmouth 10 years ago to start a family and moved again 3 years ago to be in the Elmhurst school district. I can move again if need be (out of Portsmouth) and enroll my son in a private school. That is not my first choice, but it is a choice.Flag

Please get involved and stop any potential closure before an acceptable, long term solution is in hand that will continue the good work of our educational system.Flag

Name: Ted Clement on Jan 15, 2009Comments: It is important to appreciate special and conducive learning environments. Having taught for the Outward Bound School for a number of years, I saw firsthand the profoundly positive effect our stunning natural learning environments had on our students. Elmhurst is situated in such a unique, priceless and conducive learning environment being nestled amidst the shore of the Sakonnet River, the fields and forest of Glen Park and the historic Glen Manor House. Numerous people have relocated to the Elmhurst School district just so their children can be educated in this special environment which inspires excellence within the school. Of course there are many others benefits associated with having such a unique learning environment in Portsmouth such as increased property values, etc. As a community we should recognize the irreplaceable gem we have with the Elmhurst School area.Flag
