To Whom it may concern, Mogollon High School currently has a school rule against facial piercing's, we would like to change this rule. We feel we should be allowed to wear what we want on our faces. We believe that, saying they're a distraction shouldn't be considered a good reason why they're not allowed. Some teens see it as a way of expressing themselves. I personally have a nose piercing and got it not because it's the popular thing to do, but as more of a reminder of how Jesus pierced his hands on the cross for us. It's a reminder of how body piercing's saved my life. Many see piercing's as disgusting and disrespectful, but we ask that you see it from our point of view. We see it as a way to express ourselves to explain who we are and where we stand. Having piercings is the same as having a tattoo it defines your personality and gives people a different perspective of who you are as a person. Our generation has been taught to stand out be different, but most important be ourselves. For some people being yourself includes having a piercing. In certain country's having facial piercings is a symbol of beauty, why should it be different here? First Amendment rights, applied in the school environment, are available to teachers and students. It can't be argued that either students or teachers lose their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at school. All we ask is that you consider what we have to say, we believe that we should be able to go to school but express who we are at the same time. We go to school to prepare for life and learn to express ourselves openly, our generation sees facial piercings as apart of a way of making a change for what the future is going to look like when its our turn to run the country.` Thank you for taking the time to read this and i hope it changes your way of viewing the meaning behind facial piercing's.
