Name: Michael Driscoll, D.O. on Oct 31, 2004State: caComments: as physician I believe this surgical "debarking" is ludicrous and way out of line, mutialtion at best. Perhaps an aggressive campaign of behavior modification and/or premtive behavior training would be more sucessful long term and certainly better for the animals in question and the community as a whole.Flag

Name: Barbara Draws on Oct 31, 2004State: CAComments: This amendment as written puts us back another step for the fight for animal rights. Maybe you could remove a very large sum of money instead of the smaller fines. Let us not move down the ladder and mutalate the animal because their owners can't figure out what to do. They are supposed to be smarter than the animals. Debarking is not the answer. Most of the time they can still bark and it is as anoying as the louder bark. Due to scar tissue often left behind, they are often not good candidates for life saving procedures.Flag

Name: Pamela Mowry on Oct 31, 2004State:Comments: Any animal behaviorist will tell you that dogs bark for a reason, and the reason needs to be changed not the dogs ability to bark. Any enforcement of an ordinance should start with educating the dog owners about this behavior. Education is the key, NOT surgical alteration.Flag

Name: Alex Sweeney on Nov 1, 2004State: CAComments: I have been a professonial in the world of dog for over 20 years, I believe that educateing owners to be responsible for their animals is important. Some neighbors in our steet were made to make the disscion to either "GET RID " of the dogs in question OR DE-BARK them!! Why on earth could the owners not be given a3rd possability of getting a professional in to teach them how to correct the barking . as it is the owners chose the de-barking . AND guess what guys ! THE DOGs still bark for most of the day !!! IF the dogs got training , attention , Love ,played with ,cared for PROPERLY, with mental and physical stimulation !Insted , all they get is locked up in a run that is TOO small for 2 medium sized dogs 24 hours a day 365 days a year !No woneder they bark ! THats not a life ! Oh , yes , and have I mentioned - THEY STILL BARK ! DE -barking is inhumain ,and dosen't WORK ! Barking is how they communicate. Let's teach people how to manage their animals, not how to abuse their animals !Flag

Name: Douglas Poston And Libni Pardo Poston on Dec 9, 2007State:Comments: One of the ways dogs express themselves is by barking, may it be because there is some one near the door, or there is other animals near (eg. deer), an intruder in the house, a person in distress, and the list may go on and on. Although extreme barking may also be a sign of solitude or separation anxiety, it does not warrant "surgical debarking". My neighbor ,who is at home all the time, fights and shouts often from her backyard and no one is even suggesting a "surgical devoicing" procedure for her, so why can some one dare to suggest it to be done to our best friends, dogs. If some of us are so freaked by barking, we should contemplate better insulating our houses and windows to achieve it. "Surgical Debarking" should be banned, it also should be branded as animal cruelty!Flag
