To All Stakeholders: Please attend the January 25, 2010 Board of Education Meeting at Libery Middle School, 1 Kelly Drive at 8 pm.

To: The Board of Education of West Orange, New Jersey.

We love our town and we want our children to succeed in all that they do. We are responsible to educate them to the best of our ability. This is scary that you are not waiting for the new NJ Math Standards to be finalized before making such an important purchase of the Everyday Math program. This may cost the taxpayers over $500k.

Our children deserve better. Without a firm foundation in Math in grammar, middle and high schools, math will be so much more difficult. This program ignores drilling Multiplication tables, which is so crucial for multiplication and division. We need a program with sufficient and continuous training support for our teachers as well.

There should be a Math committee made up of Math professionals (teachers, parents and residents) making this decision in coordination with the Board and Math Supervisor and Superintendent. This is a disservice to our children.

Tax payers should be screaming foul! and parents double foul! If the Board is going to spend money, it should be in alignment with the State Standards, and you should get the best Math program or at least better than what we have, and not worse!
