I like the idea that I KNOW the person who packaged up my goodies. I like the idea that Im supporting someone else in their own business... I think that admin need to relook at this and perhaps give us some options as to listing amounts etc. brendaFlag

Name: Anonymous on Mar 2, 2007Comments: i'd like to be able to buy beads, fibers, and trims for my dolls..as well as rare patterns and craft books. i'd rather pay someone on etsy for these supplies than buy them somewhere else. artists need a way to support themselves by other means than just what they make. my dolls and bags take several hours each to make, and i will never be able to make a living doing what i love if i couldn't one day start selling supplies as well to help earn extra money to keep my business going.Flag

Name: Pingwen on Mar 2, 2007Comments: Supplies is a good category for the hand-made site. It allows artists to buy from their fellow etsy sellers. I hate to see them go!! And, I feel for anyone who has a supplies only shop, as they have added their time and efforts, and money to promote Etsy. It seems unfair, and perhaps illegal.Flag

Name: Victoria Button on Mar 2, 2007Comments: I think it is impractical to distinguish between de-stashed supplies and re-sold supplies. As a crafter, I buy supplies in the sort of bulk I cannot personally use - and sell of the excess at good prices. This benefits me and my craft by lowering my cost prices, it benefits etsy by commissions on supplies and it benefits customers by allowing them access to lower-priced supplies with low shipping costs in a trusted venue.Flag

Name: Kymsart777 on Mar 2, 2007Comments: I fully support the selling of commercial supplies on Etsy. I would rather purchase unique supplies here rather than the usual items at my local Wal Mart, or commercial crafts store. It would support the etsy community, etsy sellers, and etsy itself would profit. All around, it is a good thing to be sure!!!Flag

Name: Gina Egolf on Mar 2, 2007Comments: I agree with the "Destash" idea, and do think that one should not be on Etsy if their sole intent is selling supplies at the highest Retail price!! However, some of us strive to bring smaller packs of supplies Exclusively to our Etsy crafting partners at prices considerably below the Retail cost by purchasing in large quantities and breaking them down. A supplier of supplies should be actively selling handicrafts too!Flag

Name: TheBeadingTree on Mar 2, 2007Comments: I have quite a number of WONDERFUL customers who rely on me to supply them with items that they don't have room to buy in bulk to avoid outrageous prices. If Etsy says I'll have to go, I will. But I'd rather not HURT all my customers; and that's EXACTLY what this will do!! On the other hand, if Etsy does close me down, I can go back to my recliner and let my disability pain rule my life again.Flag

It's not fair and it's not right. How far will you go Will you discriminate against me next There is a place on Etsy for all of us.Flag

Name: Gwen (at Veruka Dolls Land) on Mar 2, 2007Comments: I liked the commercial supplies catagory the way it was... Why would I be more interested in someone else's left-over project beads/sequins/charms (de-stashing) than in new ones in the colours I needed Its a Weird decision, and its not likely to bring in More business...Flag

Name: Jackie Lauseng on Mar 2, 2007Comments: I agree with all that has been said. I look for supplies on Etsy FIRST before heading to websites or the dreaded other E-store. I've bought shipping supplies (at half what I can get them locally), beads, and more from Etsy members. I will be sad if that category disappears except for the occasional "destash."Flag

Name: Emily on Mar 2, 2007Comments: I use vintage/antique supplies for my collages & assemblages ~ things I cannot find at the "big box" stores. I live in rural Wisconsin and am not able to travel to the big flea markets where these items can be purchased reasonably. There are many other artists like me who would prefer to buy vintage supplies from our Etsy "family" in other states than to go back to "feebay", etc. These sellers would be contributing in a real way to my artistic creations.Flag

Name: Cheapthreads on Mar 2, 2007Comments: Suppliers on Etsy ARE in the spirit of Etsy. They are not giant, faceless corporations. They are individuals who DO belong in the crafting community, because they care about what artists want and need to make their wares. Sellers and buyers on Etsy form special relationships. Crafters want to buy from a fellow Etsyian rather than going off the site. Suppliers support the crafting community, and support Etsy as well because their many sales help Etsy's pocketbooks. Please allow suppliers to remain on Etsy.Flag

Name: MaryLou (time2cre8) on Mar 2, 2007Comments: As long as they're in a separate category, I see nothing wrong with people selling supplies on Etsy. There are lots of people out there creating beautiful pieces who don't have the luxury of having craft stores near them; and it's just not always practical to buy small amounts of supplies on the larger sites because of the exorbitant shipping prices. How in the world does Etsy expect to police 'de-stashing' Personally, I could stock a store with my extra supplies.Flag

Name: Mary Davenport on Mar 2, 2007Comments: I sell my extra supplies on here at a great price and I am generous with my customers. I sell handcrafted items on here also. I should say try to sell. I have only sold my supplies! But that's okay. Someday someone will buy something I have made. I don't want to see a shop that sells what the dollar stores sell, or what Michaels has. But I do want to see personal stashes being sold. You get a great price here and a fantastic variety. But think about it, right now to my right I see advertising for LAWYERS! I would much rather see supplies than LAWYERS! LOL!!! THANKS AND PLEASE DON'T SEPERATE US FROM EVERYONE ELSE. I FEEL WE ARE DOING A SERVICE!Flag

Name: Imaginationalley on Mar 2, 2007Comments: The supply category is what first brought me to etsy. I was looking for unique supplies to use in my art and google kept pointing me to etsy. The sellers here "get it" and I would be very disappointed if I couldn't buy supplies on etsy anymore...Flag

I don't have to mess around with pulling money out of paypal to pay those big bead companies. I can find it cheaper, better and faster from etsy supplies sellers. Just look at my purchases, admins! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! Allow people to sell supplies on etsy! I need them, other sellers need them, WE NEED THEM!Flag

Name: Madambeadjunkie on Mar 2, 2007Comments: I love to buy supplies on Etsy!!! I think it is good for us to support each other and I don't see anything wrong with some selling only the supplies. Esty makes a profit and if we, the makers, would like to purchase our supplies here, why not It's not as though the buyers all have to make something to sell... We all benifit from each other. AND the supplies sold well be something HANDMADE!Flag
